Travis Ishikawa Elects Free Agency

Travis Ishikawa was designated for assignment last week when Derek Jeter returned to the Yankees on Thursday and went on the waiver wire. Travis cleared waivers and was given the opportunity to be sent down to AAA but has declined and has elected free agency. Ishikawa is now a free agent and free to sign with any team.

I know I am a little behind on this but the Yankees career for Travis Ishikawa is now all but over after being designated for assignment this morning. This move created the 25 man and 40 man roster spot for Derek Jeter to return to the big league club. Ishikawa will probably clear waivers and might go to AAA but if he doesn't... oh well.

Should Yankees Be Interested In Ty Wiggington?

Yesterday we learned that the St. Louis Cardinals released infielder and right handed bat Ty Wiggington after signing him to a two year deal worth $5,000,000 this off season. Wiggington is in his age 35 season and would give us the true right handed platoon bat that we "need" for Lyle Overbay. Wiggington has been terrible this season putting up a triple slash of .158/.238/.193 in 63 plate appearances for the Cardinals this year but he is an obvious upgrade over Travis Ishikawa. With the Cardinals on the hook for his $1,100,000 that he will make this season minus the prorated league minimum I think this makes sense for us to look into, at least temporarily.

Travis Ishikawa Activated & David Adams Sent Down

Travis Ishikawa has been activated after being acquired off waivers over the weekend and is in the starting lineup tonight. Curtis Granderson was added to the 60 day DL to make room for Ishikawa on the 40 man roster and the 25 man roster move has finally been made. David Adams has been sent down to AAA Scranton for the Railriders to make room on the roster. I hate to see David go down but he was STRUGGLING and this can only do him some good at this point.

Yankees Claim Travis Ishikawa From O's

The Yankees have claimed Travis Ishikawa off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles in a real head scratcher. He is out of minor league options and yet another left handed bat and would require us to make a 40 man roster move. Ishikawa is a first basemen if you could not figure that out already and gives Lyle Overbay his first real back up this season. I can see Kevin Youkilis being added to the 60 day DL to make room for Ishikawa and Alberto Gonzalez DFA'd to make room n the 25 man roster. I was hoping to get Russ Canzler so this is a little disappointing.
