Overall on the day, Hughes gave up 5 earned runs in just 2.2 innings. In other words, not Yankee-material. This may sound crazy, but can we just bench/cut Hughes and then give anybody (Claiborne, Joba, maybe even Pineda) a chance? One of those three has to be better than this former number 1 prospect.
On the bright side of this dark afternoon, the Yankees did score the last three runs of this game to cut San Diego's lead in half. Those three runs came on a couple of RBI Singles from Curtis Granderson and Lyle Overbay and a solo home run from Austin Romine, his first career long ball. So, congratulations to Austin on that. Good night.
