Chris Capuano vs. Chase Whitley vs. Adam Warren

Let’s assume that Chris Capuano is back in the Yankees rotation and off the disabled list before Masahiro Tanaka returns from his wrist injury and forearm strain, what would the Yankees do with their roster? Would they dare send Chase Whitley back down to Scranton and waste his gems in Triple-A again? Would the team send Adam Warren back into an already crowded bullpen or would they keep him in the rotation and send Capuano to the pen? These are pretty difficult questions to answer so I decided to take to Twitter to try and get some answers and these are your responses.

If you’re asking me what I would do I would have to cut my losses with Capuano but since that is highly unlikely I would at least hope that Whitley stays up, Warren goes to the pen and Capuano becomes the 5th starter. Whitley has been throwing darts this season, albeit in two starts, and looks primed to be the 2015 version of Shane Greene. There is no way I am taking Whitley out of the rotation right now as much as I like what Warren has been able to do as a starter.

To be a part of our next post like this head on over to Twitter and give @GreedyStripes a follow and be on look out for a tweet from myself. I will always inform you that I may or may not use your tweet in any potential blog post.

  1. Whitley stays in rotation, better starter than Warren. Warren goes to the BP because he is better out of the Pen than as a starter...for an inning or two his change of pace and nasty stuff works well. Capuano is ok, but we need more than ok, Trade him.
Until Tanaka and Nova come back then I see Tanaka, Pineda, Eovaldi, Nova and Whitley. I am waiting for someone to stand up and move CC to the pen or find a reason to put him on the DL. He has shown improvement, but he still gives up too many hits at the wrong time. He is no Moose!

    1. Who takes Capuano after not throwing a single pitch in the majors this season though, you know? Even if teams want him they would want to screw the Yankees over for that reason alone. Not that he's owed a ton of money but still, it's not the new "Yankee way" unfortunately.

    2. I always have hope that Hal will come to reason on the side of the team, not his bottom line.

I have no idea what they could do with CC other than the DL. I still think he is favoring his right leg and it is affecting his pitches at times. I mean a pitcher with a 5.45 ERA, 1.447 WHIP and over 1 HR per game is unacceptable for any pitcher!

    3. Burch trade Capuano for a bag of used batting practice balls because thats all he worth

    4. I think we all hope that Capuano would be traded but I think that we all know he won't be. They will give the company line about depth and insurance and he pitched really well for us last season and BS, BS, BS (instead of blah blah blah)

  2. MUSTACHES.......enough already.
The novelty on the act has left the barn. Pinstripe players should not look like idiots.

'Some guys' look outstanding with a mustache, while others don't.
When you don't look good in a mustache, the individual is embarrassing himself.

This group tonight looks like a Costco's mid-shift pack out crew.

  3. HANSEL & GRETEL ...has returned, good !
Now the site has true counter balance.
Or, does Gretel return, only when the 'Magnificent Eovaldi' is doing his thing ?

    1. Still not an Eovaldi supporter, even the Yankee announcers get on him for having 97 MPH hit and not being able to have a players swing and miss on his stuff. Remember Patty Moss that it can come in 100 MPH straight and be hit. Movement is the key to pitching and he has none.

  4. THE YANKEES...are 17-11.
Sabathia owns five, of those eleven losses.
Because he is owed monies, he is allowed to be the death anchor on this season ?

At this rate....the Yankees will retain a starting pitcher to be 4-18 at seasons end ?

    1. I don't see him winning four games this season. Team doesn't hit even when he does pitch well. He's this year's Michael Pineda run support wise.

  5. If Eovaldi is throwing at 97 he can still have swing and miss on his straight fastball, it is called Command/Control of the Strike Zone. By the way, his fastball has a bit of movement but he sets it in the meat of the zone too much. Up, down, side to side, at the hands and high around the letters. Simple to say but harder to do!

    1. You only have that when you can set it up with another pitch though. Curve ball outside sets up the inside fastball, etc. No one is worried about Eovaldi's breaking stuff on a normal day, although his slider is developing nicely, and that I think is the problem. Not many can throw one pitch and win no matter how much command and control he had. See Mariano Rivera who had many pitches as a starter but couldn't use them effectively forcing him to flourish in the bullpen (Betances too) when he simplified it to two, and eventually one, pitch.

    2. I was addressing the straight fastball only Daniel. Yes, it would be best to have at the minimum of three good pitches but, with command and control of two (one being 97+) he can get by unless one isn't working that night. Which was his problem the other night! Hitting the middle of the plate to many times sure isn't the way win.
Something to think about with him is...can he really develop two good pitches? If he can, what a number 1 he would make for the next 5 years or more!

  6. Anyone have a guess as to what is in store for CC if he can't do better?
I must admit, as an Irishman, I never thought of spending money even when making very good money in my part time job. Also, I have a tendency to be ruthless in my pursuit of excellence and anything less would be unacceptable in my line of work.
So stating that as a starting point if things don't change very soon, I would do this...
DFA, Ryan, Jones, and Capuano for starters. Or trade.
Bring up Refsnyder (2nd base), use Drew as backup for 2nd /SS, and keep Pirela as Utility man.
Find a way to replace CC in the rotation.
We could end up with a rotation of...Pineda, Nova, Tank, Whitley, Eovaldi and set-up a six-man rotation with any number of guys for the sixth man. One of which would be passed over (CC?) if there is a day off.
Then again maybe CC will surprise me and become the second coming of "The Moose", after all, is said and done, CC is not that far off!
In a perfect world, that would be done...maybe, maybe not, who knows?!?

    Long winded enough guys?
