Game Thread: New York Yankees @ Washington Nationals 5/20

For the finale of this quick little two game interleague series the New York Yankees make the trip to Nationals Park to take on the Washington Nationals in a getaway game. The Yankees are off once again tomorrow before finally returning home to the Bronx to play host to the Texas Rangers so we may be in for a Rob Manfred special type game tonight. Adam Warren takes the mound for the Yankees to face off with TBA for the Nats. The game will be played at 7:05 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.

By clicking the Yankees Tickets link at the top of the blog you can purchase your Yankees tickets and have them in hand before the team comes home for the weekend. Just as a reminder this Sunday is Bernie Williams Day at Yankee Stadium and there are still a few tickets left if you act fast. If you can’t afford the marked up prices to see the Yankees retire #51 then that’s no problem just jump on the comments section of the site and/or on Twitter (@GreedyStripes) to chat with us during each and every (almost) game this season.

Alex Rodriguez is on the bench, Jacoby Ellsbury is stepping up to the plate and Adam Warren is warm in the dugout so it sounds like it’s Yankees game time. Go Yankees!

  1. Hmmmm.... We call up a lefthanded centerfielder to replace our lefthanded centerfielder. Binder says? Start the right handed outfielder that's hitting .125 over his last 10 games against a right handed pitcher.

    1. No sense. Slade should have been in there, Girardi has a hard on for Chris Young though.

  2. Girardi just doesn't like young players. Period. No defending him on this one.

    1. Especially when Beltran just cost us a game with his defense right there

  3. Exactly. Beltran has to go. I don't care if he's "hitting better of late". He's a liability on this team. And the fact he got moved up in the lineup proves that dumbass Girardi does not do what's "best for the team". Maybe Posada should have hit second.
Sorry Bryan. Love you bro, but you might have had it coming! LOL!

    1. Him batting second is proof positive that he is not going ANYWHERE anytime soon.

  4. Would someone tell me the reason we even have a discussion of Beltran's, Drew's, and Ryan's worth to the team? They can be replaced with our farm guys, some of which will improve the hitting line-up and help the defence which in turn helps the pitchers. Refsy is a much better hitter than Drew is and maybe now just as good on defence.
We have a chance to replace Drew with Refsy at 2nd and Pirela can go be the utility man again or go to AAA. As for Beltran, we have a plethora of out fielders just waiting for the chance.

  5. Hal can give you 30 million reasons why Ramon Flores will stay in AAA, Heathcott will join him soon and Beltran will stay in the Bronx. He's a cheap a-hole

    1. AMEN!, however he leads everyone to believe he isn't cheap and there are people on here who believe he spends money as well, not the case with a 3 Billion dollar franchise. You leave 6 mill on the table for a player that would help in a year or two. Genius Hal needs to amortize the cost out and he will see the 6 mill is less.

    2. He wants everyone to believe he isn't cheap ignoring the fact that most of the big money contracts on the books his father signed, not him. Hal is simply waiting out Teix, Sabathia, A Rod, etc.

    3. Why do some fans want to buy players and pitchers when we have enough now? Most everyone complains about the farm system, but keeping kids on the farm is not the way to go. We lost a good pitcher in the rule 5 draft, plus a few other players. One can only protect 40 players then what do you do?
It has to be a "Use'um or lose'um thing. Depending on injury reports we have about 2 or three pitchers that could step in and do a good job right now in the number 5 spot and the same or more for the bullpen all of them are good... are they a good enough force to be reckoned with...no one knows until they pitch against live major league hitters. A few of them have a few innings under their belt already and did well.
We have a few outfielders that could help the team right now the same for a 1st baseman, although Tex is starting to be the Tex of old. But we could use a new right-fielder.
Who was it that said, we had to have the best players at every position, the core 4+1 came from the farm...so can others. Jeter, Mo, Posada and Andy all came to spring training not knowing if they would make the cut...except Jeter, he was the replacement for our injured SS.
Once a player gets to AAA and does well...after 4-5 years on the farm...they can develop a real bad attitude quickly.
The history of minor league players is hard to figure out. One reason is because some are better than what they have shown on the Farm or not as good. There have been many players come up to the Show and take-off like a pro and then fizzle out, conversely, much more adjusted to the game and became Jeters and or Andys.
One prime example was Don Mattingly, he was a double and Avg. hitter, so they said, but he adjusted. The great Mickey Mantel was sent back down because he didn't adjust to the big show and the speed etc. Brett is another one, all the experts said he would be a good 4th or fifth outfielder at best, look at him now ok power (last year) and was hitting over .300 this year.
What the hell are you doing to MY Yankees? Spend the money, your dad knew he couldn't take it with him, now it is time for you to learn the Yankees are bigger than you and your Family. Are you and your family afraid they wouldn't have a job, get over it! They are the New York Yankees, treat them as such!

    4. The Yankees lost NOBODY in the Rule 5 Draft. Not in the major league portion and not in the minor league portion. We lost quite a few in 2013 and 2014 but they were extremely replaceable bullpen pieces, namely Tommy Kahnle.

    5. True you are Daniel, I read the wrong year on that...thank you for the correction!

The year of that part was wrong, but the egregious way the Yankees have been being put together the last few years is the same...Cheep!
