Weekly Check In: Jorge Mateo

You know how we normally have a schedule for these weekly check in posts? Well yeah that schedule has gone out the door the last few weeks with injuries to Gary Sanchez, Brady Lail, James Kaprielian and others and somehow Jorge Mateo got lost in the fray. Mateo is usually our Friday morning special but this week he’s been bumped to Saturday. My apologies and no disrespect intended to Mr. Mateo if he’s reading this, which he’s likely not.

Mateo continues to open eyes down in A-Ball and I know I keep saying this but he is due a promotion to Double-A Trenton any day now. The All-Star Games and such are being played and the time to move for most prospects is now. Mateo’s time is now. Let me be a little premature in welcoming you to the Trenton Thunder.

I like being first. Sue me.

  1. A little slow aren't you Daniel, I would have him in "AAA" by now! Hell he is 21 years old. LOL

    1. The way he's progressing he could probably handle it.

    2. This is his last year of options isn't it?
Unless something happens at 3rd base (trade/buy) I still think Castro will out grow the position so move him to 3rd for next year and have Mateo play 2nd. It's to simple for them to think about it as to if it would help the team.
      Oh, well...that's the game!

    3. I'm going to be honest Reed, I have no idea. There are different sets of rules for different players depending on at what age they signed and blah blah blah. I'm not an encyclopedia unfortunately but I feel like someone, Mike Axisa for example who is en encyclopedia, would have mentioned that by now if this was his final year before needing to be added to the 40 man roster.

I don't know for sure. I'll ask around.
