Weekly Prospects Check In: Justus Sheffield

Justus Sheffield is one of the many new prospects that general manager Brian Cashman and the New York Yankees added to the organization and one of the now many bright spots in the Yankees organization and farm system. We’ve already officially met him and introduced him the only way that we know how here on the blog so let’s check in with him as well and see just what he has been up to statistically this season as a member of the Cleveland Indians and as a member of the New York Yankees family. Enjoy.

  1. This kid has bulldog mentality.
He bends but doesn't break. Only seen video on him, but he is a keeper.

He projects to be a #3 starter. That attitude may make him a #1.

    1. You're absolutely right Donnie. When I think of a bulldog mentality like you speak of I immediately think of David Cone. Very rarely did he have the best stuff of the two pitchers out there on the mound but the guy could flat our grind and flat out pitch. He never beat himself.

    2. Daniel, do you remember the story I told about Eddie Lopat? Well, Cone, was the same way as far as changing arm angles. He would pitch Mid-high over the top and 3/4 on down to side arm.

    3. I do remember but I hadn't put two and two together. Thanks for the reminder Reed!
