With the game in a scoreless tie in the top of the seventh inning, Curtis Granderson stepped up to the plate and hit a two-run home run (his second of year) to right field to give the Bombers the lead. After that, Granderson would score again in the ninth on a single by Nix. With this win, the Yankees record on the year is now 57-52, 3.5 games behind the Indians for the wild card.

Nova's dominance lifts Yankees to shutout win over Padres
Ivan Nova pitched seven scoreless innings while striking out 8 tonight as the Yankees took this weekend's middle game from the Padres, 3-0. In those seven frames, Nova gave up just four hits, walked just one, and got the win, improving his record on the season to 5-4.
Alex Rodriguez Asks Yankees To Buy Out His Contract
Alex Rodriguez may be feeling the heat from Major League Baseball and their looming suspension from the Biogenesis fallout and has contacted the Yankees about a possible buy out of his remaining contract. Alex Rodriguez has something in the neighborhood of $90,000,000 left on his contract and is looking to collect his money before MLB suspends him and potentially could ban him from the game for life. All this came after Alex Rodriguez tried to plea with MLB, reportedly, to give him an 80-100 game suspension with an agreement to retire after the suspension ends. The thing was he still wanted to be paid his entire contract and MLB shot that down after his press conference last night in Trenton. Now Alex is desperate to get his money before the suspension comes so tune in tomorrow and Monday when we finally get the conclusion to The Bronx Is Burning II.
Alex Rodriguez Walks Off In Latest Rehab Game
Alex Rodriguez walked off tonight in his latest rehab game with the Trenton Thunder but not in the way you would think. Alex went 0-0 with four walks tonight while playing seven innings at third base for the Thunder team. With the Trenton team off tomorrow there is much speculation this could potentially be the last game of Alex Rodriguez's career and looks to definitely be the final one of 2013.
David Phelps Scratched From Next Rehab Start
David Phelps has been scratched form his schedule start tomorrow after complaining about right forearm stiffness and pain. Phelps admits that he is not feeling 100% and Joe Girardi and company want to take no chances with this guy, especially with elbow soreness and pain in the throwing arm. Phelps will be sent back to the minor league complex in Tampa to get more tests before we see what the next step is.
Jeter Will Be Out For The Rest Of The Weekend
Derek Jeter will miss the remainder of the series this weekend with the San Diego Padres complaining about something in his right calf. Jeter said he woke up Monday after the Los Angeles Dodgers series feeling something in the calf and it feels better today then it did that day but Joe Girardi is taking no chances and will sit him for the weekend. Jeter is said to be available to pinch hit and would probably DH if we were in an American League park but we're not so that is where we are at. Jeter will be evaluated before Mondays game with the Chicago White Sox and judging by the way this season has gone will probably be added to the disabled list.
Game Thread: Yankees @ Padres 8/3
The Yankees and the Padres play game two of their three game set at Petco Park tonight on YES and MLB TV. The pitching match up is Ivan Nova for the Yankees and Tyson Ross for the Padres. Nova had an amazing July with a 2.03 ERA in four starts holding opponents to a .188 batting average, not that the offense helped him much in those starts. Hopefully Nova has turned the corner and can build on this success and ride it all the way to the playoffs. Ross was dominant in his last start against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Ross sports a very healthy 2.90 ERA this season in six decisions so hopefully we can get to him early and often.
Here is the Yankees lineup
Brett Gardner CF
Robinson Cano 2B
Alfonso Soriano LF
Curtis Granderson RF
Lyle Overbay 1B
Eduardo Nunez SS
Brent Lillibridge 3B
Chris Stewart C
Ivan Nova RHP

New York Yankees @ San Diego Padres 8/3
The New York Yankees and the San Diego Padres play their second game of a three game set at Petco Park this evening. The Yankees will send Ivan Nova to the mound to face off with Tyson Ross of the Padres. The game will be televised at 8:40 pm ET on YES and MLB TV. Weird start time I know and they wonder why the media has such an East Coast bias.
Alex Rodriguez: "I'm Going To Keep Fighting"
Check out A Rod's press conference from last night after his rehab game with the Trenton Thunder.
Gary Sanchez Promoted To AA Trenton Thunder
Gary Sanchez has finally gotten the bump up from High A Tampa to AA to play with the Trenton Thunder. Gary should be in the lineup tonight with Alex Rodriguez when the Thunder take on the Reading team at home in Arm & Hammer Park. This is long overdue and exciting for us fans as our arguably #1 prospect takes the next step to the major leagues.
