New York Yankees Spring Training Notes 3/18

The Yankees were off today fully, no work outs, no Grapefruit League games, etc so there is not much news to report today besides Phil Hughes simulated game and Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettitte pitching in minor league games.

Mariano Rivera threw two innings today, a total of 31 pitches, striking out four and inducing two ground outs against a mixture of the Toronto Blue Jays Low and High A ball teams. Andy Pettitte faced the Blue Jays and pitched 5.2 IP allowing two runs on eight hits with seven strike outs. Pettitte roughly threw 80 pitches and expects to be in the mid 90's to 100 in his next start.

Phil Hughes pitched two innings of a simulated game and is on track to make his spring debut next Saturday. The Yankees look to be lining him up to make his first start of the season April 7th, the first time the Yankees will need a 5th starter. Hughes pitched to another Yankees player battling injuries, specifically to the back, this spring in David Adams. Adams seems to be close to getting into real game action as well and his back seems to be healing quite well.
