This Day In New York Yankees History 8/14


On this day in 1993 the Yankees retired Reggie Jackson's #44 jersey in a pregame ceremony after he was elected into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame. Reggie spent five seasons with the Yankees including four post season appearances and two World Series victories.


On this day in 2007 Yankees legend Phil Rizzuto died in his sleep in his home in New Jersey. Rizzuto was 89 years old and at the time the oldest living Hall of Fame player for Major League Baseball.
