Joe Girardi To Decide Today

According to a post at the Chicago Sun-Times website, Joe Girardi will make his decision about whether or not to accept the Yankees contract offer to continue as their manager today.

Thinking is that Girardi will decline the offer and explore the Cubs' offer. However, the Cubs have already discussed other options, including former Diamondbacks manager AJ Hitch and former Indians and Nationals manager Manny Acta.

I hardly think Joe Girardi will make or break the Yankees from 2014 and beyond, but I am a fan of his and would like to see him return to team. I also wonder that if Girardi goes to the Cubs, will that affect Kevin Long's and Larry Rothchild's jobs? Long has been responsible for a lot of improvement with hitters, most notably with Curtis Granderson a couple of years ago. And Larry Rothchild has a nice track record with pitchers.

  1. I personally think Joe stays... I doubt he wants any part of "starting from scratch" in Chicago. I think if he goes there he'll be looked upon as some kind of savior with a little too much freedom and I believe not having too much power is what he enjoys about the Yankees job. All the tough questions always being asked to him can be deflected to Cashman or the brass. I don't see that same scenario for him in Chicago.

    1. I agree that he'll likely return to the Yankees. And it's a great point that in Chicago he could be made into the fall guy, whereas in New York he can always defer to the front office.

Then again, Chicago fans are used to losing, so they aren't as likely to jump all over Girardi when they lose.

    2. Bryan ...did you know there are only 3 players in baseball history that have had 5 years straight of 40+ doubles and 25+ HRS?

Can you tell me who they are?

    3. Are the Cubs really starting from scratch? They started from scratch three or four years ago, they are probably two years away from competing in my opinion

    5. Robinson Cano

Can I get a hint on the other two?

    6. Yes, amazingly the great Cano has done it. The other 2 need research. But for you Daniel with your keen baseball acumen it should take 10 minutes. It should take old ranger 10 years.

    7. Stan the Man was a great doubles hitter ... He led the league 8 times. Yes 8!

      But didn't hit 40+ 5 in a row!
