Kelly Johnson Signing Made Official

Is it a coincidence that the Kelly Johnson signing was made official on the same day that Robinson Cano ducked and ran to Seattle? Probably not. Anyway Johnson is officially in the fold for the Yankees in 2014 and will at least compete for the starting second base job this spring. Johnson is capable of playing first base, second base, third base, and left field so he would also make an attractive bench option or could replace Alex Rodriguez if he is suspended.

Kelly was a teammate of current Yankee Brian McCann while with the Braves from 2005-2009. His left handed power hit 16 home runs in 2013 and could be a potential 20 home run guy in Yankee Stadium in 2014. Welcome to the family sir.

  1. Hey Daniel, who do you see starting at second base for the Yankees now that Cano's gone?

    1. Bad spelling on the name but you guys knew who it was anyhow...right? Clayton Kershaw, 25 years old and a lefty.
He is not a FA this year is he? We would have to work out a trade for him, right?
Well, we can forget that one, although Cash does come up with some things that catch us all by surprise!
Somehow I have this feeling he is going to come up with a trade for a starting pitcher using Brett as a big part of the trade. I don't like it, that messes up the one two punch of Ells' and Brett. Also, makes the out-field defense suspect somewhat.

    2. I'd rather they hold off and try and sign Tanaka. And at that point they'll have enough pitching with him, CC, Hiro, Ivan, and Pineda/Phelps/Warren/Nuno/Banuelos.

    3. I am more then comfortable with a Tanaka or a Garza and letting Adam Warren keep the seat warm for Pineda in the 5th spot.

  4. Kelly is more likely to be a bench player then a third basemen and is more likely to be our third basemen then our second basemen. Just my thoughts but they are my thoughts until or unless Infante goes elsewhere.
