Quick Hit: Yankees 2015 Starting Pitching Logjam

With just about 50 games left in the 2014 season I always start thinking about next season right about now. The Yankees are sure to have a starting pitching log jam next season in the major leagues and that will be a good problem to have for once. This is assuming that the Yankees get a healthy CC Sabathia and Ivan Nova back to pair with another assumed healthy Masahiro Tanaka. Michael Pineda is still under team control, David Phelps turned a lot of heads as a starter this season, and Shane Greene has been fabulous. That's not counting the possible resigning of Brandon McCarthy or Chris Capuano who have also pitched well above their heads in pinstripes.

This also got me thinking will there be any money or a roster space for the likes of Jon Lester or Max Scherzer? It's not looking good although Nova will not be ready for Spring Training so maybe Brian Cashman goes crazy and gets one of the top starting pitchers, I have my doubt though.

  1. Keep CC & Tanaka; Sign Greene 5/6 year deal; Trade Nova, Drew & money for Tulowitzki; Sign Scherzer & Lester or Lester & Shields or Shields and Scherzer to complete rotation; Move Pineda & Phelps to bullpen!

  2. While I don't agree with your stance Nicole I definitely love the greedy mindset and I welcome you aboard. Hope to hear from you soon.

Just as an FYI it will take a whole lot more than Nova, Drew, and money for Tulo. Especially considering Nova will still be rehabbing Tommy John this winter, Drew won't be on the team, and tulo is also injured.

No need to sign Greene to a 5/6 year deal because you have six years of team control already through arbitration.

Sign Lester, sign Scherzer, sign Shields, sign them all. No way you move Pineda to the pen though, that guy is too good.

    2. I agree with you partially because we need a shortstop hopefully in Tulo but singing Hanley would be great! If Drew goes than we also need someone at second, idk who that would be, but Pineda has to go somewhere for room for All Star pitching. Tulo could be useful in 2016 if they make a deal with him then, but yet again whos gonna play ss and 2nd

    3. Hanley I can't see staying at shortstop long term. Honestly I think we have a better shot at landing JJ Hardy than we do Tulo, as much as it kills me to admit it.

    4. Thats defiantly a possiblity also.

  3. Martin Prado, with a little help from Long can become a better hitter, he has everything a good hitter needs, except approach/stance. IF we can land Tulo, without paying a ransom for him, that will help! Bring up Pirela, Refsnyder and Roller and one of the many guys in the OF...maybe Rusney Castillo?
Masahiro Tanaka. Michael Pineda, David Phelps, Green, and a plethora of others willing and able to step in and take CC's place!
There may be a FA we can use for the outfield/infield.
That's they way I would go about it, see what we have now, with the Kids and then adapt & improvise!

  4. That somebody at second base is likely to be Robert Refsnyder. Long term and now.

    3. Nicole Dugan, may I apologize for the abrupt manners of my Irish friend. His writings sound harsher then his meaning.
Also, welcome to the site and please have fun, but look for feed back on whatever you comment about or on.
That is the fun, we all think differently, therefore, we don't always agree...and that is good, we learn things all the time!

    5. Write anything you want to young Lady (?), and one of the commenters or the high Poo Pa (Daniel), will try and answer you as well as we can. No such thing as a dumb question.
Patrick is a good guy, and as you and he are Irish...that makes, three of us!
Always dream large, the larger, the better...anyone can go for the small stuff, it takes guts and panache to go after the Big Dream.
Have fun and comment as much as you wish, the more the merrier!

    6. Makes four Irish. I am not 100% by any means but I am more than half. I have a lot of native american blood in me as well as a little Scott. My kids both being born red headed can attest to the Irish though (their hair has since darkened up thankfully).

    7. That's cool Daniel!
Your kids hair will change more yet. One of my 5 sisters had red hair as a kid, I mean really RED, now it is white but, before that it was a deep Reddish Brown. Mine, sorry to say, was almost white in my Confirmation picture and then turned dark blonde...me thinks, there was a Norseman somewhere in our history! LOL

    8. I also had a red or strawberry blond hair until I was almost four years old. Then I wen't blond until about three or four years ago, now it's darkening up and falling out. I still show my Irish in my beard when I grow it out though.

  6. AT NINE GAMES OUT....and it's starting to look that way tonight, I would like to enter my
choice, as the new Yankee pre-game song.
My offering, is by Bob Dylan, from 1965......." Desolation Row "....( the first chorus only, is enough )
This should be played, as the YES Network is opening it's Yankee game broadcasting.

    "DESOLATION ROW "....the first chorus.

They're selling postcards of the hanging
    They're painting the passports brown
The beauty parlor is filled with sailors
    The circus is in town
    Here comes the blind commissioner
They've got him in a trance
One hand is tied to the tight-rope walker
The other is in his pants
And the riot squad they're restless
    They need somewhere to go
As Lady and I look out tonight
    From Desolation Row.

Makes no sense ? Not so, cowgirls....it encompasses everything we are watching.

    1. Sad to say it's over. I tried to rally the troops yesterday and we got shut down by the Tampa Bay Rays. It's over.

    2. Question, oh great Optimistic leader;
What are your thoughts going forward for the Yankees? We have 15 (?) days until the call-ups. I think they should wait until then to make a few changes. Like I said before, I like Martin Prado as a super "U" guy, we could bring up the guys we have all been taking about, Plus that relief pitcher they got in the draft, name (?) starts with an "L", and a couple more BP pitchers.

    3. Lindgren. I actually have a post scheduled to post tomorrow afternoon about the September call ups. You could go into the dashboard and read it if you wanted to be a cheater, lol.

Going forward.. I've said it once and I'll say it again (and again) it's inventory time. You can see what you have in the minor leagues without blowing up the team. Play the young kids that come up and give David Huff, Ichiro, and others a day.

  7. Nicole:

We tend to be pretty relaxed and lenient over here. Talking Yankees gets taken off course every once in a while, and that's ok.

  8. Mid September is the best guess right now.

  9. Nicole, absolutely. I hope so but I am just being realistic. The Yankees baby their pitchers, especially ones on seven year deals with big money attached
