Yankees Will Sign Headley Write it Down

The New York Yankees will sign Chase Headley, write it down, take a picture I don't give.. well yeah if you've seen the movie you know the rest. Headley is essentially the third base equivalent of Andrew Miller as both players have expressed an interest in wanting to be a Yankee. Miller acknowledged turning down a four year deal with a fifth year option for a higher AAV with Houston to be a Yankee and I can see the same thing happening with Headley. Headley has even went as far as to name the Yankees as his "top choice" to sign with this winter so most of us are sticking here wondering what's the hold up?

Well the hold up is this mystery team that has offered Headley that huge deal worth $65 million while the Yankees were seemingly unwilling to go past three years for their incumbent third baseman. Then Andrew Marchand reported that New York was willing to give Headley the fourth year if it mean't keeping the AAV down. Sounds a lot like what they told Miller the night before they signed him.

Brian Cashman knows the Yankees need Headley and are a much better team with the third baseman and he will get the deal done, maybe even today, just remember where you heard it first when it happens.

  1. Only happens if SF gets Lester. Houston is the $65 mil team

  2. Is that confirmed? Everything I have read seems to point out that the offer was fabricated.

  3. I have no other knowledge other than what I read. I would like to have him back but I'm at 4 for 48

  4. If New York could get Headley for 4- $44 (my prediction) or 4 - $48 then that's a steal considering the market that was set by Pablo and Hanley.

  5. Pablo delievers in PO which we haven't been to lately and Hanley is a hitting machine, you also have to look at Headley's back as an issue. It looks like SF is not the favorite on Lester now which again brings my thought process to SF with Headley. Hal has really disapointed me with his fiscal handcuffs. Yes I know what he did last year, however if you look at the losses in revenue the year before from being a tightwad you will realize why he had to spend last year.

George knew that to make money you had to spend money and it just cracks me up that all these other teams outspend the Yankees. I have said it before and I will say it again. I would love for Mark Cuban to buy the Yankees because we know this guy is all in. He won't be outspend by the White sox or Mariners and lastly Hal talks about wanting to have players from his farm come up and deliver so he doesn't have to spend money on FA, yet he keeps Cashman employeed who we know is responsible for the farm system as well. Yes Newman and Oppenheimer where in charge of scouting and drafts yet Cashman is their boss.

Now we hire a minor league hitting instructor to replace Oppenheimer, why wouldn't you raid the Giant's or Cards for a person that has a great background that could run scouting and drafts, why hire a minor league hitting instructor? i don't understand this teams thought process?

    1. Right I agree and was not comparing Hanley and Pablo to Headley but surely you understand the impact on the market these two had. There are multiple teams out there that now need a third baseman and Headley is the best available. He might not get the AAV but I think if he demands a fifth year he will get it.

  6. I get you, however I think we would both agree that Cashman won't go a fifth year. It just pisses me off that we don't use our financial might anymore. This franchise wasn't built on fiscal responsibility and all of a sudden we are penny pinchers. I would've went hard after Lester with no draft pick attached and we need another lefty. I don't get it

    1. I'm with you Ken. Doesn't make sense. Makes me miss the Boss. Hal isn't afraid to spend money but George did whatever was possible and necessary. Sometimes you need both to win.

    2. The way George ran things is why it took so long to build our farm up to what it is today. We may not have any superstars on the farm, but we do have a lot of guys that could be very good players. I'll take a team with very good players over a team with one, two, or even three stars.
The good thing about George was, the Yankees came first, the kids...not so much!
I must say, I like Cashmans restraint with the long contracts, it is something we have needed for a long time.
It will take some time and refining but, once the older guys with those big long contracts are gone, the Yankees will be on top again.
A five year contract for a 30-31 year old pitcher is not to long, if they want it, go for it. But only if it is one player, that we give up a draft pick for.

  7. I just read that the Houston offer was bogus so you were right. I still think it comes down to Frisco and Lester. They sign him we are in, they don't and now it looks like they aren't the leaders anymore because of the state income tax. He would only receive half of his check playing in CA, however the same thing would apply to Headley in SF

    1. The difference between Headley and Lester is that Headley wants to be a Yankee and even potentially hurt his value saying so. Lester wants the money.
