Yankees Held Private Showcase for Yoan Moncada

According to Ben Badler of Baseball America the New York Yankees held a private workout for Cuban defecting 19 year old prospect Yoan Moncada recently. There isn't word on when the workout actually took place or how Moncada looked but the workout has already happened, that much we do know.

Moncada is a potential five tool player and a franchise changing prospect that can be acquired for just money. If the Yankees don't make a serious run at this guy then the team's direction and plan really has me scratching my head.

New York will not be without competition though as at least 20-28 teams will more than likely be involved for the Cuban middle infielder.

  1. With the Yankees being penalized for going over the international spending limit, meaning that after June 15th they won't be able to give an IFA more than $300,000, I don't see why they wouldn't go all in on Moncada. I mean, after June 15th it's going to be really hard for them to get good to great prospects for a couple of years.

    1. I agree, of course, but there have been more than a few guys we thought as slam dunks that New York didn't even bid on. This is probably different but until we sign a Cuban player the Yoenis Cespedes (NYY was the "favorite") and Yasiel Puig signings will forever haunt me.
