Who the hell is hyped up for today besides me? Can you tell
that I am? It’s Opening Day ladies and gents and that means the games FINALLY
count again and finally mean something. We as fans finally get to see Starlin
Castro don pinstripes and we finally get to see our beloved Bronx Bombers seek
revenge against the team that sent them home for a long winter last season in
the Houston Astros. Let’s look at the pitching matchup, a familiar one by the
way, that we will see this afternoon in the Bronx as Dallas Keuchel takes the
mound for the Houston Astros and Masahiro Tanaka takes the mound for the
hometown Yankees.
Tanaka will be making his second consecutive Opening Day start for the Yankees after coming over to the Bronx from Japan three seasons ago and will be looking to turn around a rough spring for the Yankees ace. Tanaka did not pitch well this spring but presumably has to know how little spring stats mean in the grand scheme of things. Tanaka has yet to really dial it up so we may get a true glimpse of what to expect out of the Yankees right-hander after his start today in the Bronx.
Dallas Keuchel heads into the 2016 season looking to defend his American League Cy Young Award after going 20-8 with a 2.48 ERA in 33 starts last year. Keuchel also beat this same Yankees team in the AL Wild Card Game in 2015 as well so confidence has to be high for the Houston southpaw.
The game will be played at 1:05 pm ET and can be seen on ESPN and the YES Network while WFAN, led by John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman, have the game over at WFAN on the radio.
Go Yankees!
