Game Thread: New York Yankees @ Chicago White Sox 7/5

The New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox are just about to kick off the second of their three game set this week in Chicago with another great pitching matchup. The Yankees will send their ace and stopper Masahiro Tanaka to the mound tonight looking to turn things around for himself and the team while the White Sox will counter with another starter who needs to turn things around sooner rather than later in Carlos Rodon. The game will be played at 8:10 pm ET inside US Cellular Field and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.

The Yankees have one more with Chicago and then a short series with the Cleveland Indians before sending some to the All-Star Game and others home to rest for a few days. I think everyone needs a little bit of rest at this point for New York, especially if you look at their tough schedule after the All Star break. Check out the TGP T-shirts section of the site while we have all this time off and also check out the Yankees Tickets link at the top of the blog to prepare for the unofficial second half of the season.

Tanaka versus Rodon. Let's go. Go Yankees!

  1. Hans and I have said that trying to fight for .500 ball at the trade deadline would be the worst possible scenario.

And that's the exact position we are in. And for anyone questioning it with their nonsense "hit a hot streak in the playoffs" don't forget we just dropped 2 of 3 to the Padres after recently dropping 2 of 3 against the Rockies.

    2. If losing two of three from San Diego didn't cement it then I give up on this organization and Brian Cashman. I've already given up on Randy Levine and Hal Steinbrenner hahahaa.

  2. Exactly Daryl, almost everyone on here except for you and Levin don't see that winning actually is taking a two steps back approach. This team can't make a run in the playoffs. If you want to be a buyer you need to sell your so called prospects to get the additions needed. Let the sell-off begin and lets start the rebuilding. I keep hearing the non sense that the Yankee fans wont accept a rebuild. Thats BS, you think they accept mediocrity? The people that understand this game realize that there needs to be a complete overhaul. I said it during the off season that this roster was flawed and the elf did a poor job of constructing this team. All I kept hearing was I was basically out of my mind which I probably am, however I know baseball and I know quality players, am I wrong sometimes..yes but I'm right more times than not.

All you elf fans are living in elfville where he sprinkles his elf's dust on you and you all think he's great. I don't know how you can't see his plans for this team has been counter productive. He does understand that we need to get younger. If you look at his body of trades he is the loser in most trades. So far the only trade he has won to this date is the Didi trade. Castro was not necessary, Refsynder will out hit Castro, Tex, Hicks, Gardner, McCann, Headley if given shot at 500 AB's. Hell Romine is out hitting McCann. Heck Daryl with your thought process you might be called a non Yankee fan shortly lol, however your are correct winning only masks the problems this team has which is multiple.

  3. Who on this site said anything about this team being a good or winning team? And selling off our farm is about as stupid as jumping off a building. Sell some of our players such as two of the DMC (keep Dellin), Ells, Brett even McCain. We have replacements for some of them, others can be signed after we get rid of some of the big useless contracts.
Just remember7WS wins in 43 years means something was wrong with the way things were being done! Like maybe trading away our farm system for older players. Now they are going in another direction one I and some others think is the right way to go.
My opinion, you don't like it, give me a better sound way to build a team and get under the Cap at the same time.

    1. I agree with you reed. But until they make the trades for 3 of our current pros, I don't think they agree with you! Lol hopefully they aren't in lala land

    2. Daryl first if you trade two of our DMC it has to be Chapman and Miller as they bring the greatest haul in. Personally I'm only trading Chapman and I am making Miller my closer and Dellin my 8th inning guy. Second no one is taking Ellsbury unless you eat 90% of that contract so we know thats not happening either as the owner is cheap. Remember as Patrick stated we are a 3 billion dollar organization and the Rockies and Dodgers and Roid Sux can eat contracts but we can't. That tells you how cheap the owner is.

If you want to trade some of the guys above our GM can't get it done without eating contracts i.e. Prado. I' didn't realize there was a salary cap in this game, I think Hal has a self imposed number he wants to be under which is known as the tax threshold. Well both Hal and the Elf are to blame for this entire mess. Hal wont spend and the elf can't grow a farm system and anyone who disagrees with that doesn't get it. Who else do you blame for it? Ya I know it was Oppenheimer and Newman's job not the elf's responsibility as he is just in charge of baseball operations. Maybe its Levine's and Trosts fault as they rank higher up than the GM and VP of Baseball Operations.

My point Daryl is that this management team has no clue and the trades that have been made for the most part by the architect of this inept roster is the elf. Of his recent trades to make this roster whole tell me outside of Didi who they really needed when they had that right under their nose? I want to hear from the elf supporters what players he brought over that we needed?

    3. I bet you after losing Carl Crawford the Dodgers would be dumb enough to take Ellsbury's deal. Problem is and the problem always will be the no trade clause. Nothing is a given with a NTC and we can speculate all day but that's just what it is, speculation.

And just for the record I said winning was a gift and a curse. I, as a fan, wish for my team to win 162 games a season plus the playoffs. I won't HOPE the Yankees lose, but I do see that winning decreases the possibility of what should happen, a fire sale.
