Brett Gardner started a hitting program a few days ago and has been running the bases and taking fly balls in hopes of coming back this season in some sort of role. The Yankees have said that they were willing to bring him back in a defensive replacement and pinch running type of role. Joe Girardi has confirmed that this will happen sometime this season but the Yankees have not made up their mind on just when that will happen.
The Yankees will need to make a 40 man roster move to get Gardner back with the big league club so expect a DFA for Derek Lowe in my opinion. Either way Gardner is coming back and I cannot say I agree with the decision.
