This Day In Yankees History 5/9


On this day in 1999 Yankees reliever starts the game against the Seattle Mariners as the Yankees win the game 6-1. The important piece of information is that Stanton had 552 relief appearances before this first start breaking Gary Lavelle's major league record for the most appearances before starting a game.


On this day in 2002 Mariano Rivera saved his 225th game setting a new franchise record for the Yankees. The previous record was set by Dave Righetti who finished his Yankees career with 224 saves.
