This Day In New York Yankees History 7/9

On this day in 1937 Yankees slugger Joe DiMaggio would hit for the first of his two career cycles when he went 5-5 with two home runs, a triple, a double, and a single in a 16-2 victory over the Washington Senators.

On this day in 2011 Derek Jeter became the first Yankees player ever to reach the 3,000 hit mark. He would hit a home run off of Tampa Bay Rays pitcher David Price in the third inning. Jeter is only the 28th player to ever reach 3,000 hits in his career.
