This Day In New York Yankees History 8/22


On this day in 1939 the Yankees won their first night game in franchise history when they beat up the Chicago White Sox 14-5 in Comiskey Park. The Yankees knocked 14 base hits including nine of them being extra base hits in the victory.


On this day in 1961 Roger Maris became the first player to ever reach the 50 home run mark in the month of August when he hit a home run off of Angels pitcher Ken McBride.


On this day in 2008 Derek Jeter became the third New York Yankees player in their history to reach 2,500 hits joining Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth. Jeter had a bloop single against Radhames Liz in a victory against the Baltimore Orioles.
