Yankees Still Showing Interest In Ervin Santana

According to Chris Cotillo the New York Yankees are still showing interest in Ervin Santana for their starting rotation. The Yankees have some stiff competition for Santana as the Rockies, Orioles, Mariners, and Dodgers are also said to be interested in the right hander. The Cubs have also asked about Santana but are reluctant to give up their draft pick associated with signing Santana after he rejected a qualifying offer.

  1. The " Rumor " today, that I do not see having legs.....is " the Yankees looking at Santana,
and Jimenez." I don't get this one.
Why spend millions on pitchers with ERA' close to 4.00. They have that now, in the multitudes
    vying for their fifth spot.
If they do this, how can you explain not signing Grant Balfour.
Third base, the bull pen, and the bench. Not either one of those two guys.

    1. The other rumor is the Garza signing will drop the price on Jimenez and Santana significantly. Whether it happens or not remains to be seen but still. Garza signed for an AAV of $12.5 million or so and did not require a draft pick. Santana and Jimenez do...

I have seen the numbers on Santana even as low as three years and $30 million... I'd sign him in a heartbeat for that. Maybe two heartbeats.

    2. I disagree with signing any of the retreads!
I say, " Go with the Kids", they will never have a chance to work in the show next year if they don't have a chance this year.
The four "IFs" followed by a kid makes next year an easier transition for the team. Kudro will be gone!
One of the many pitchers we have will come through in spring training and show he can hold down the job!

I don't know how many of you remember that Mo was going to be sent down and, was almost traded because some thought he wasn't going anywhere unless he learned another pitch or two. That was our highly regarded media...NOT so much!

  2. I would definitely rather have Santana then Jiminez. Don't know for sure, but I've heard rumors that Jiminez is a head case. Doesn't make sense to me that they would give up a draft pick and a lot of money for a #4 starter, when they could have just given up a lot of money and signed Garza.

  4. BULLPEN 2014 : with a caveat.

I am going to put up, what may be the 2014 Yankee bullpen.
With a hypothetical....suppose early on, that the Yankee trainer, runs to Joe Girardi, and says..." David's elbow is screaming. He can not lift his arm, I suggest he get an MRI !"
Digest that, then look at this bullpen, minus Robertson...and your thoughts on the 2014 campaign ?

    1. Cesar Cabral is devastating, especially against lefties, he has to be in your pen way ahead of Phelps.

  5. Interesting, Mr.Burch....Ervin Santana?

I may have been too quick to throw him over board.
Do you see something here ?........please go on.
Do you think the team will pull the trigger ?.....please go on.
That bullpen could need help. And, they go after a starter ?.....please go on.

  6. Develop a young(er) pitching staff that can go 7+ innings the bullpen because less important, not to say it's right.
