Tanaka okay as Yanks clinch winning spring

Masahiro Tanaka gave up 3 earned runs in 5.2 innings and Scott Sizemore, Zelous Wheeler, and Roybell Herrera all drove in runs today as the Yankees impressively completed a 7-0 week with a road win over the Twins, 5-4. So yea, as you can see by that line, Tanaka was good here, but just not great. He struck out 6, but also gave up a not-so-pleasant 5 hits.

And to be honest, I'm a little concerned about this guy. Sure, he's still getting adjusted to having just 5 days of rest, but that doesn't mean that he has excuses for not looking sharp. I mean, he's getting paid $155 million, isn't he?

  1. Although he wasn't dominant, he did show the ability to get out of trouble when he loaded the bases. Plus, he got the win. The positive we can take from this is how good Shane Green looked in the ninth. First time I've seen him pitch. Pretty impressive.

  2. Hi Jeff...
I had the same opinion of Shane, this time. I had seen him once before and he was a bit on the wild side...not bad but enough. I guess someone helped him clean up his mechanics a bit, he was good last night that is for sure.
Do you think he may be a call-up for the BP if needed this year or keep him on the farm for another year of working out the kinks? One good game is not much to go on but, that's all we have to go on, as of now!

    1. Shane has less than 80 innings in AA, he is about a year to a year in a half away barring any emergencies of course.

He has always been a bit wild but really got his control worked out last season. Hopefully that improves a ton this season.

  3. I don't think he'll be a callup. He's a starter, and I think he'll stay there. Plus, I think we have too many good arms in front of him right now.

    1. Ok Jeff...
I can live with that, keeping him on the farm isn't a bad choice. Even he will come to realize it is the best for him.
      Good show !
