Trenton Thunder Game Recap 5/11

Thunder Take Series Finale 15-0, Drop Suspended Game 4-3

The Thunder dropped the completion of Saturday night's suspended game with Reading on Sunday afternoon at ARM & HAMMER Park, bowing to the Fightin Phils in 14 innings, 4-3.

Reading scored the game's go ahead run in the 14th inning with a pair of singles and a passed ball. Taylor Knigge hurled two shutout innings in relief to earn his second victory of the season for Reading. Pat Venditte took the loss for the Thunder.

In the regularly scheduled game, the Thunder amassed 15 runs on 17 hits in a 15-0 thrashing of Reading.

Ben Gamel's two-run homer in the fourth inning staked the Thunder to a 2-0 lead. The Thunder erupted for eight additional runs on eight hits in the fifth inning. The inning was highlighted by a two-run single by Yeral Sanchez, a two-run double by Gamel, and a three-run home run by Peter O'Brien.

The Thunder extended their lead to 12-0 in the 5th inning on O'Brien's second home run in as many innings, a mammoth two-run blast high over the left-field wall.

The Thunder capped their biggest offensive output of the season with three more runs in the seventh inning. The inning was aided by a pair of Reading errors.

Thunder starter Matt Tracy hurled seven shutout innings of to earn his fourth win of the year. Tracy, allowed six hits and just one walk on Sunday afternoon. Reading's starter Severino Gonzalez surrendered ten of the Thunder 15 runs in three and two-thirds innings to lower his record at 3-2.

The Thunder open a three-game series with the Erie Sea Wolves on Tuesday night at ARM & HAMMER Park. Left-hander Jeremy Bleich (3-2, 4.46) will pitch for the Thunder; Erie will counter with right-hander Wilsen Palacios (2-1, 5.34). On Tuesday night, it is Kids eat free night, with fans age 12 and under receiving a free meal voucher when they enter. It is also Dollar Dog Night presented by Black Bear Franks.
