Quick Hit: John Sickels Top 20 Yankees Prospects

The whole reason we started Prospects Month over here on the blog, well aside from the fact that I love prospects and I am a self-professed prospects humper (trademark pending), is the numerous Top Prospects lists we see around this time of the year. Yesterday John Sickels took his shot at ranking the top Yankees prospects. You will see a lot of the same here, no real head scratchers or bold picks, but I bring them to you nonetheless right here.

1. Luis Severino
2. Aaron Judge
3. Greg Bird
4. Robert Refsnyder
5. Gary Sanchez
6. Jacob Lindgren
7. Ian Clarkin

14. Jose A. Ramirez
15. Bryan Mitchell

  1. No Pirela? No Abiatal Avelino? No Nick Rumbelow? No Tyler Webb?

I can see, as sleepers why he likes; Angel Aguilar, Miguel Andujar, Eric Jagielo, but over those above?

  2. I think it's a more a testament to how deep our system has gotten recently. That being said, I do agree with Pirela being in the top 20. Avelino, not yet. Right now, I just see a light hitting shortstop. He hit .247 in low a. Rumbelow and Webb are just relievers who had their ERA raise significantly when they reached aa and aaa.

    1. I was thinking the same thing Jeff when I saw Tyler Austin fall out of the Top 10, and he did on my list as well. The system is deep and getting deeper by the day

    2. My years of following the modern Farm system...years ago there was no real farm system as is now set-up...I have never seen the Yankee farm system as deep and as well stocked at so many positions as it is now!
I will give the credit to Mr. Cashman and his people, along with Hal! Hal decided to do the right thing, in this case...let the man that has the job, do the job! Cashman promised Stick and Watson he would continue to build the farm system, but he was no match for King George nor the Tampa Cabal+Hal.
Now it seems as though Hal is all in on a full effort to bring the farm system up to be one of the better ones around. The man is doing it for a reason, things, they have changed! Now it has gotten to the point where a team can't just buy a team anymore.

If Hal will not sign Yoan Moncada...which I think is A MUST...then, we will all know it is all about the money and not the team!

    4. If not, we will know the why of it, won't we?

    5. Yes and no. Cashman wants the guys but the Dodgers and Padres have endless money right now.
