Game Preview: New York Yankees vs. Texas Rangers 5/23

The New York Yankees and the Texas Rangers are back at it again in the Bronx this afternoon after playing a night game last night. With the day game after the night game you can expect manager Joe Girardi to give a couple of his regulars a day off or at least a half a day with the DH position so we may see Garrett Jones and too much of Stephen Drew this afternoon. On the mound for the Yankees will be CC Sabathia who will look to start a winning streak against the Rangers Nick Martinez. The game will be played at 1:05 pm ET and can be seen on MLB Network, WPIX Channel 11 and MLB TV.

  • Sabathia is looking for his third straight win on the season this afternoon after winning each of his last two decisions. CC has allowed five runs on 12 hits in 14 IP in those victories walking just two batters and striking out 14 leaving many to believe that CC has finally figured out how to pitch and not just throw. CC owns a career 11-3 record with a 4.45 ERA against the Texas Rangers in his career but has not faced the team from Arlington since the 2012 season.

  • Martinez has enjoyed a strong May thus far posting a 1-0 record with a 3.68 ERA in four starts and has also enjoyed a strong road record this season posting a 1-0 record with a 1.52 ERA on the road, both of which are bad signs for the Yankees this afternoon. Martinez faced New York twice in 2014 and posted a 0-1 record with a 4.91 ERA against the Bronx Bombers which is a great sign for New York. Which Martinez will show up this afternoon in the Bronx? Stay tuned.

New York almost has a full day off after this contest as the team does not play again until 8:00 pm ET tomorrow as a part of ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball. Frankly I cannot wait to sit on my couch and blow through 85% of my cell phone battery tweeting John Kruk to #ShutTheKrukUp I don’t know about you. Go Yankees!
