Getaway Day Open Thread

For the first time ever we are doing a getaway day open thread here on the blog because you asked for it. You asked for more open threads to talk about whatever you like and with the Yankees game in the books and a long flight out to California ahead of the team we should have plenty of time and plenty to talk about tonight. Anyone going to see any of the west coast games this week? Stephen Drew still sucks, that always makes for an entertaining conversation. Anything you guys and girls want, go!

For the open thread music recommendation today we’ll go with a classic that you probably never heard of. It’s called “The Crazy Ones” and it’s from a band formerly known as Stellar Revival. Enjoy!

  1. Funny that you mention Drew, because he's one of three players I want to vent about. How much longer are we going to have to watch this hole in our lineup? I don't care about his occasional homeruns. I don't care that he plays "slightly" above average defense. He's flat out hurting this offense. Next player I want to vent about is Beltran. Am I the only one that doesn't care about his 13 game hitting streak? Do you realize how hollow and insignificant it is? In his last 36 at bats (10 games), he has 1 home run and 3 rbi's? That's on pace for about 13 homeruns and 38 rbi's in 450 at bats. Is that enough to make up for his EXTREMELY poor defense? Who cares if he's hit in 13 straight? Last is Young. About .090 in his last 10. Enough said.

    1. Young was supposed to be a backup, hard to get onto him because he is being exposed as an everyday player. Whether that's Girardi's fault or Beltran's fault remains to be seen. You do pose a good point though with Beltran, sure he is hitting but it's what he is hitting. If he's hitting at the bottom of the lineup then average over power (over the last 13 games) is okay. Beltran hits in the middle of the lineup. We need power out of him.

Drew sucks, that's all I've got. Drew sucks so bad. I hate him and I hate Cashman every single day that Drew is here.

    2. I hate Cashman because I just do!

  2. Amen Hans! I hate Cashman for giving Girardi players like Drew, and I hate Girardi for starting players like Drew. Even if Refsnyder was on the roster, Girardi would start Drew. He only punks players he has a personal issue with like Posada. (Sorry Bryan!)

    1. You're probably right. He has Pirela and rarely uses him, although you have to admit Pirela at least dug his own hole a little.

    2. Pirela has been a shell of what he showed before getting injured. I have no problem with Girardi not playing him that much right now, however if the guy gets hot let him play. I believe that Didi made either 6 or 8 errors all last year and he already is at 6 so the master plan that the Elf had isn't working so far in my opinion, but hey I really don't like many of his moves for the most part. I do like the Miller move though

  3. JEFFREY LEVIN.....Re: Posada...I find him to be annoying. Self centered, and living
in a confused world of 'The Core Four'. The man is mixed up, and really should
just shut the F-up. An idiot who is celebrated..And, people listen to this guy ?

Mgr. Joe Girardi, most likely has had his fill of this fool. The guy refused to play, because
he thought he was disrespected. He should have been fired on the spot. Idiot.

    1. The guy didn't know how blessed he was to be in the major leagues, especially at his advanced age and position. He can feel disrespected but he also needs to be realistic as well.

    2. I'm with you Patty Boy on Posoda. We're not talking about Johnny Bench for gods sake with him. He needs to STFU and go peacefully into the night and thank the lord he could at least hit.

  4. Little p, I appreciate your criticism because deep down I know it is constructive. Girardi vs. Posada. Girardi couldn't carry Posada's jock strap into the ball park when they were players because it weighed more than his entire equipment bag. He is a bitter little man that will play aging veterans over promising players every day. Mainly because that is what his career boiled down to. He was always the 2nd best catcher wherever he went. He's made more money as a manager then he ever did as a player. He was a AAAA player, and a dick head manager that wants to suppress young players to make himself feel better.

    1. Jeff, I respect you and your views but, in this case, you may be a bit too critical of Joe G....in my humble opinion.
Joe was a very good catcher, with no power but ok Avg. hitter, he was a great handler of pitchers and was brought to the Yankees to teach Posada the art of working with the pitchers. Posada was a very good hitter but a bad handler of pitchers, and not very well known for his glove either.
If one could have put the two of their talents into one player we would have had a HoF catcher.
Posada did very well for the Yankees but, wouldn't except the fact he was not the player he once was. I think we had a very good bat and an acceptable catcher, which at the time, was what we needed in the person of Posada.

  5. How do you praise Girardi for teaching youngsters, when he's clearly holding them back now?

    1. One question to be asked of the situation is; "Is it Joe G., or is it upper management?"
Joe was brought to the Yankees for Posada to learn from. Now he is the manager, he has to follow orders just as Cashman has too.
In the case of playing the older guys over the kids, I concur with your befuddlement. It is the old way of doing things. Maybe things will be forced on him from the younger guys and the production we get from them. I hope anyhow!
Like tonight's game, even though Lindgren pitched yesterday(?) he could have been used tonight, possibly saving Dellin, or playing Heathcott, the much better player in CF.
No question about it, the kids are playing better than some of those we have on the field every day.

    2. By the way, what are you doing up at this hour in the A.M.? I only sleep 5 hours a night or less, that's what old people do. LOL
Get some sleep, you are young and need the rest. You are a good man Jeff!

    3. Girardi isn't going to use Lindgren unless he has to. ie a 14-1 victory. He would rather use David carpenter and watch him get lit up. Sad truth.

Also to compare posada and Girardi's playing careers is a bit unfair. Girardi was a defense first and fundamentals catcher on a defense first and fundamentals team. Posada was the wait for the three run home run catcher, converted from second base, on a team that waited for the three run home run. Two totally different players on two totally different teams.
