Chris Parmelee is basically the Yankees last hope t a true first base option this season which goes to show you how much New York's lack of depth at the position is being exposed. Mark Teixeira may be gone for the season, Dustin Ackley is gone for the season, none of Chase Headley, Brian McCann, Austin Romine or Robert Refsnyder are true first base options and the Yankees aren't going to call up Nick Swisher it seems leaving Parmelee as the anointed one.
What did Parmelee do in Triple-A to earn this spot? Well not enough but injuries happen so here we are. Let's check in:
Year | Age | Lg | G | PA | R | H | 2B | HR | RBI | SB | BB | SO | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
2016 | 28 | AAA | 43 | 172 | 20 | 38 | 8 | 7 | 21 | 0 | 21 | 31 | .252 | .343 | .444 | .787 |
The Yankees had exceptional depth at 1B, actually, they just lost three 1B to season ending injuries (Bird, Ackley, and Tex).

DeleteTed,
DeleteWelcome to the site. To be fair they lost Bird pretty early on and had plenty of time to add some depth there. They didn't. Ackley is also not a first base option. He's inexperienced there and he showed it night in and night out. He was put there out of desperation, not because of depth.
Not once was he mentioned as a first base option until after the Birdman of New York went down. That's like saying Robert Refsnyder was part of your first base depth as well.
Exceptional depth. Far from it in my opinion and it's being exposed. Also you can't add Teixeira to the list. He's a starter and not technically considered depth. Depth follows starters.
