Pedro Feliciano Likely Done For Season

Everyone who got their hopes on getting something, anything out of Pedro Feliciano during his 2 year tenure worth $8 million will be highly disappointed as it is very likely that Pedro is done for the season. Pedro rehabbed through the minor leagues and his 30 day window passing every test only to hurt his ankle covering first base in his last rehab assignment. The Yankees used that as an opportunity to reset his 30 day window and has likely shut him down for the season. Sounds about like his, and our as fans, luck huh? Thanks for nothing Pedro.

What Happened To Pedro Feliciano?

Remember Pedro Feliciano? You know, the guy that signed a 2 year deal worth $8 million and injured his shoulder, failed to rehab it, had surgery on it, and has been working back for the better part of a month before he fell off the edge of the Earth? His 30 day window is all but gone and the minor league seasons are over but we have not heard, unless I have been living under a rock, what the Yankees are going to do with him. The Yankees expected him to be on the major league roster by the middle of September, like now, and I have not heard a thing about him. I guess that means the Yankees have decided to cut their losses and shut him down for the season.

Pedro Feliciano Throws Another Scoreless Inning In Rehab

Pedro Feliciano's 30 day rehab window is quickly coming to a close this weekend and Pedro Feliciano is still sitting at 84 mph. He is getting batters out but the velocity is still a little scary, although after not pitching for two years and a major shoulder surgery it may never come back. Pedro did seem to tweak something in his foot when covering first base for the final out in the inning but it does not seem like it will be a serious issue.

Pedro Feliciano Completes 9th Rehab Assignment Game

Pedro Feliciano pitched another scoreless inning in his rehab assignment, this time for the Staten Island Yankees. He allowed two singles and struck out a batter in his scoreless inning, his 9th so far this rehab assignment. The two singles that he allowed were both to right handed batters so Feliciano is definitely a LOOGY at this point.  His 30 day window is over on September 9th so he may be Joe Girardi's to use and abuse as soon as tomorrow.

Pedro Feliciano Strong In Possible Last Rehab

In what could have been Pedro Feliciano's last rehab assignment he was, yet again, a little shaky but overall got the job done. In one inning he allowed a home run, to a right handed batter, and got the next three batters. He only threw 13 pitches and recorded one strike out. Feliciano may see one more rehab assignment but I can see him coming up the pen as early as Sunday and as late as next week.

Feliciano Shaky In Latest Rehab Assignment

Pedro Feliciano seems like he has cleared yet another hurdle as he entered a game for the Trenton Thunder last night. Feliciano for the first time in this rehab pitched in back to back games and also for the first time came in during the middle of an inning. Pedro faced two batters with runners on 2nd and 3rd and nobody out. He induced a ground ball for the first batter, although a runner scored, and then walked his second batter. Mixed in there was a passed ball that allowed a second inherited runner to score. Pedro threw five pitches and only one of them was a strike.

Mike Ashmore spoke with Feliciano and tells us that Feliciano will pitch again on Thursday and if all goes well he will be in the major leagues when the rosters expand on Saturday. What a road back for Feliciano who is actually way ahead of schedule. Great work Pedro!

Another Scoreless Inning For Feliciano In Rehab

Pedro Feliciano made his sixth rehab appearance tonight, this time with the AA affiliate Trenton Thunder. Pedro threw 17 pitches, 9 for strikes, with two strike outs and a walk in his latest scoreless inning. He was only hitting 84 MPH on the radar gun. A mid September return for Feliciano is still the plan going forward which is encouraging for us.

Feliciano Strong In 5th Rehab Appearance

Pedro Feliciano was moved up to High A Tampa for his fifth rehab appearance after making his first four appearances for the GCL Yankees. He allowed four hits and one run in his inning but three of the four hits were against right handed hitters and we all know that Feliciano is a lefty specialist and a LOOGY. Feliciano has a long way to go but this was yet another step towards the Bronx.

Feliciano W/ Another Scoreless Inning In Rehab

Pedro Feliciano is still on his way back from a shoulder injury and surgery that has basically kept him out of baseball for the better parts of two seasons. He took one step closer to returning and throwing his first real pitch in pinstripes today for the GCL Yankees today when he pitched a perfect inning. Two ground balls and one fly ball was the damage against Feliciano.

Feliciano Throws Another Scoreless Inning In Rehab

Damn Baby! You Know I Have $8 Million bucks right?
Pedro Feliciano took one step closer to becoming a Yankee, for real this time, today in his latest rehab assignment. In his third rehab appearance for the GCL Yankees Pedro struck out a batter in a scoreless inning. No word on the velocity or the pitch count but if the velocity was way down we would have heard about it by now. All signs look for Feliciano coming back to the Yankees when rosters expand this September as a 3rd left handed pitcher in the bullpen.

Pedro Feliciano Strong In 2nd Rehab

Pedro Feliciano pitched in his second outing in his rehab assignment and threw a perfect inning. While pitching for the Yankees Gulf Coast League team he got two ground balls and struck out one batter while walking none. No reports on pitch count or velocity but if the velocity were down I am sure we would have heard something by now. All looks good for a September return for Feliciano.

Pedro Feliciano Strikes Out The Side In Rehab

Pedro Feliciano, who has not thrown a single regular season game pitch since signing a 2 year $8 million contract with the Yankees, made his first rehab appearance today since major shoulder surgery. The bad news is he allowed a walk and a double but the good news is he struck out the side. No word on pitch count or velocity but if it was a cause for concern we would have already heard about it. Feliciano probably will be up in September when the rosters expand if all goes well but has very little chance of making the post season roster this year.

Pedro Feliciano Starts Rehab Assignment Friday

Coming Soon To A Mound Near You

Pedro Feliciano, you know the guy that pulled a Carl Pavano and signed a 2 year deal worth $8 million only to never (to date) throw a pitch for us, is scheduled to start his rehab assignment this Friday, 8/10,  for the Gulf Coast League Yankees affiliate. Feliciano is coming back from a torn capsule and rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder last September. He would be a third lefty in the pen , and probably only a September call up, but would be a welcomed addition to the bullpen.

Injury & Roster Updates

Brett Gardner is expected to take some dry swings while nursing his sore elbow when the Yankees are down in Tampa playing the Rays. Girardi stands by the late July time table for Gardner and rules out any chance of us seeing Brett before the All Star Break in a little over two weeks.

Speaking of Brett Gardner the Yankees moved him to the 60 day DL today to make room on the 40 man roster for Danny Farquhar. The Yankees claimed him off waiver from the Oakland Athletics today in a real head scratcher. He looks like he will be headed to AA Trenton and only has 2 IP of major league experience. With the plethora of minor league arms and options I do not see the point in going out of the organization for a guy that we need to guarantee a 40 man roster spot on. Not to mention that him being a Yankee is a waste of a good 'stache.

Russell Martin left the game Sunday with a stiff back and is expected to take batting practice today and if everything goes well will be back in the game as early as tomorrow. He would be welcomed back with open arms, not that Chris Stewart has done a bad job.

Pedro Feliciano threw 25 pitches, his first pitches thrown since his rotator cuff surgery, in the bullpen today. This was his first full mound throwing session since the surgery although he still has a very long way to go. I do not think anyone has any hopes of him helping the Yankees out this season.

Injury Updates On Four Yankees

Via River Avenue Blues

Got a quartet of injury updates courtesy of Erik Boland and various NY Post reporters
  • Joba Chamberlain (ankle, elbow) will throw live batting practice on Monday, his first time facing hitters as part of his rehab. Brian Cashman wouldn’t put an exact date on it, but he expects that the right-hander ““will help us” this season. In other news, Joba got rear-ended on the way to the Tampa complex yesterday but is fine.
  • David Aardsma (elbow) will appear in his second minor league rehab game tomorrow, and Cashman confirmed that if “everything goes all right, in 31, 32 days, he’ll join us.” Aardsma’s 30-day rehab clock started earlier this week, putting him on target for a return shortly after the All-Star break.
  • Austin Romine (back) has been playing catch and hitting off a tee in Tampa. “Assuming there are no setbacks,” he will play this year according to Cashman. A few weeks ago we heard that a July return was in the cards.
  • Pedro Feliciano (shoulder) will throw off a half-mound today and a full mound on Tuesday. He expects to pitch this season but I wouldn’t count on it. Maybe he gets healthy in time to serve as a third lefty reliever during the expanded rosters in September, but anything they get out of him is gravy.
