Injury & Roster Updates

Brett Gardner is expected to take some dry swings while nursing his sore elbow when the Yankees are down in Tampa playing the Rays. Girardi stands by the late July time table for Gardner and rules out any chance of us seeing Brett before the All Star Break in a little over two weeks.

Speaking of Brett Gardner the Yankees moved him to the 60 day DL today to make room on the 40 man roster for Danny Farquhar. The Yankees claimed him off waiver from the Oakland Athletics today in a real head scratcher. He looks like he will be headed to AA Trenton and only has 2 IP of major league experience. With the plethora of minor league arms and options I do not see the point in going out of the organization for a guy that we need to guarantee a 40 man roster spot on. Not to mention that him being a Yankee is a waste of a good 'stache.

Russell Martin left the game Sunday with a stiff back and is expected to take batting practice today and if everything goes well will be back in the game as early as tomorrow. He would be welcomed back with open arms, not that Chris Stewart has done a bad job.

Pedro Feliciano threw 25 pitches, his first pitches thrown since his rotator cuff surgery, in the bullpen today. This was his first full mound throwing session since the surgery although he still has a very long way to go. I do not think anyone has any hopes of him helping the Yankees out this season.
