Rays @ Yankees 9/14/12
The Yankees will host the Rays tonight in the first game of a three game weekend set with a lot more room between them and the Rays then they had just three days ago. Coming off a sweep at the hands of the Orioles the Rays will be fighting for their playoff lives now trailing the Yankees/Orioles and the Tigers for that last wild card spot. There are a lot of question marks that come with this game as the Yankees send CC Sabathia to the mound looking for any kind of command and consistency and the Rays send David Price for the first time since missing time with shoulder discomfort. The game will be televised at 7:05 pm ET on YES and MLB Network.

This Day In Yankees History : 9/14/12
In 1974 Graig Nettles of the Yankees and Jim Nettles of the Tigers became the second set of brothers to both hit a home run against each other in the same game. The Yankees ended up beating the Tigers 10-7 in that game.
In 2007 Shelley Duncan was signing an autograph for ten year old Red Sox fan Griffin Whitman when he wrote "RED SOX SUCK" and signed his name. He received a ton of negative feedback from this and I will never understand why.

Pettitte Rejoins Rotation
Andy Pettitte will start on Tuesday, pushing David Phelps into the bullpen.
Andy is slated for approximately 70 pitches on Sunday, meaning we could see Phelps throw a few innings after him. As for David, he'll throw a side-session in the next day or two, and wouldn't be available in relief until Sunday anyway.

Rafael Soriano To Opt Out?
According to Jon Heyman there is a "good chance" Rafael Soriano opts out of his contract, which is set to pay him $14 million in 2013, making him a free agent after this season. If Mariano doesn't return, then that could make the bullpen pretty iffy, as I don't see any way the Yankees re-sign Soriano to a multi-year contract. Heck, Cashman didn't want to sign him in the first place. Of course, if the team needs to fill the closer role, then that could change.

Yankees win
#untuck
Say goodbye to Fenway Park for the season, especially you Nick Swisher, because we will no longer benefit from (and sometimes die by) that annoying green monster, or that even more annoying pesky pole, or that just downright silly triangle in center field. The Yankees finish up their three game set with the Red Sox tonight as they send Phil Hughes to the mound to face off against Felix Doubront. The game will be televised on YES and MLB Network at 7:10 pm ET.

The Freddy Garcia News We Have All Been Waiting For
Ivan Nova is scheduled to start in place of Freddy Garcia in his next scheduled start against the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday. Nova was not exactly in the discussion for the CY Young award before he went on the DL but he has to give us a better chance to win then Freddy does. Hopefully this time off has healed the shoulder and gotten his head and mechanics right so we can right this ship.
This Day In Yankees History : 9/13/12
Yankees CFer Bernie Williams was born on this day in 1968.
In 2011 Mariano Rivera recorded his 600th save when Russell Martin threw out Ichiro Suzuki trying to steal second base.

You're Kidding Me, Right?
Update: Derek aggravated a bone bruise in his left ankle, which is something he's been dealing with for a couple weeks or so. It's nothing new, and shouldn't keep Jete out of any games. Girardi said he will play tomorrow, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him DHing tomorrow.
Well, it was great to get the win tonight, as that hasn't been happening very much over the last month. Seeing the Orioles win in walk-off action wasn't so good. And what is worse? Derek Jeter is injured.
In the top of the 8th inning the Yankees had runners at the corners with one out, and all Yankee fans thought the same thing... "just don't hit into a double play". So what happened? Derek Jeter hit into a double play. And that, folks, wasn't the bad part. The bad part was seeing Jeter limp after hitting the bag.
No word on what the injury is, however it was said during the game that it was a possible sprain to his left ankle. That report was followed up with the thought that Jeter will play tomorrow, but that was more attributed to his competitiveness, and not to his ankle being okay.
More on this as we here it.

Andy Is "Good To Go" After Simulated Game
Andy Pettitte threw a 55 pitch simulated game for the first time since being cleared to run by team doctors on Monday. Andy threw four innings and was crisp and, more importantly, set back or question mark free. He seems to be ready to start whenever the Yankees will let him. The Yankees reported yesterday that they might be willing to bring him back before he is fully stretched out and have David Phelps back him up in the bullpen which I cannot say I disagree with when I look at the standings. This is not a 20 year old kid, Andy Pettitte knows his body and we know he will not push it farther then he should and risk injury. If Andy says he is ready then put him in coach.
Speculation has started that he will start next Tuesdays game in place of David Phelps against the Toronto Blue Jays. If that is the case then he is in line for three more starts down the stretch after the Toronto game including dates with Oakland, Toronto, and Boston.
