Yankees Now Interested in Young & Reynolds

Now that the Yankees know the Alex Rodriguez decision is for 162 games plus any postseason games we would play New York has turned their attention to Mark Reynolds and Michael Young. Left handed hitting Kelly Johnson is currently penciled in as the starting third basemen along with Eduardo Nunez but the Yankees really need an upgrade, especially since they just saved $25 million by switching their third basemen.

Young hit .279/.335/.395 with the Phillies and the Dodgers last season and has diminishing skills and power. Reynolds hit .220/.306/.393 with the Indians and the Yankees last season and handled first and third base adequately for New York. Neither are very attractive options but they are better than what Alex Rodriguez is going to give us next season, nothing.

  1. I would rather have Young. I have seen enough of Reynolds

  2. I think I would too at the end of the day but Young does not make us anything but older in my opinion. We dont need him to be a middle of the order hitter anymore, which helps, but neither are great options. I think both are just keeping the spot warm for Chase Headley

    1. I'd rather have Reynolds. He struggled last year with a Cleveland, but was pretty good when he put on pinstripes

    2. Over the course of a full season though he will really get exposed... just my opinion.

  3. I would like to see them sign Stephen Drew, but he does not want to play third. Enough cash may help him change his mind.

    1. It's not like there are many beating down the doors to get Drew as a short stop so why not? Especially on a multi year deal and the opportunity to play SS next season if and when Derek Jeter retires

    2. Drew would be smart to take the job with the Yanks and play 3rd...Jeter is not going to play next year...unless he gets the front office to sign him!
Cashman will not offer him a contract!
So next year Drew can play SS. So I ask, what is the problem with him, the money will be better than he can get anywhere else at SS!
Jeter was one of the best the Yankees ever had at SS, but NO body can hold back age...even Jeter!

    3. ROCKET REED....not ready for the icy Atlantic ? Break out those speedos.

Steven Drew...maybe. Reynolds, more pop !,...maybe. Young...maybe.
My take....Drew will cost BIG money. They sign Reynolds, to platoon with Johnson.

They worry about Jeter, and shortstop...next year.

  4. A side note on ageing star players...
This is in no way a hit of Jeter, A-Rod, CC or anyone else on the team!

The problem with age is it doesn't happen over night, and those on the team and most Fans don't see the small changes that come about over a few years. One shows up to play and gets his hits, and makes the plays...he can get too...nothing seems to be wrong. The bigger the Star (Mickey Mantle played 4+ years to damn long). Will that be the case for Jeter, A-Rod and Tex?
Hell, Mickey was told to go after everything he could get too because Joe "D" was not what he once was (foot problems)!
Take a closer look at any older star, on the infield/outfield, there is always a player told to play a bit closer to the other player...thus, the other player can't cover as much of his own ares as he should.
Another thing (as with Itchy) infield hits don't come as they once did...now, they are outs or DP.
Oh yes, there is a resurgence every once in a while to the player he once was...see, Vernon Wells!

The legs are the first thing to go...the thing is, the legs are one of the two most important parts of a players body...Hands are next. As a young Football player there was a guy voted to have the best hands in the Mid-West, now he knocks things over etc...point being, nothing stays the same...EVER!
