CC falls apart in 6-3 loss to Mariners

CC Sabathia gave up 4 earned runs in 5 innings of work and Dellin Betances followed him by surrendering another two tonight as the Yankees frustratingly lost this series' opener to the Mariners, 6-3. Through 4 frames in this one, CC was absolutely dealing, giving up no runs and just three hits, but then in the top of the fifth he had his big inning, as the M's circled the bases 4 times on 5 hits to turn the game's tides.

Anyway, the Yanks offense, which, come to realize, hasn't really done anything for about a week now, struggled mightily this evening against Seattle Starter Chris Young, scoring just 1 earned run in 5.2 at-bats when Mark Teixeira hit his second solo home run in as many games in the bottom of the second. Besides that, the Bombers also pushed across individual runs in the third and ninth, when Brian Roberts scored from third on a throwing error and Brett Gardner singled in Ichiro.

Besides those guys, as you all already know, Robinson Cano also made some news in this contest, going 1-for-5 with an RBI in his first game in the Bronx since signing with the Mariners this offseason.
