Greedy Pinstripes Top 28 Prospects List: #19

Prospects Month is in full swing and we're already up to our 19th best prospect in the farm system, Dante Bichette Jr. I know I am probably higher on him them most and I almost put Ty Hensley here, or anywhere after him, but I needed to see more from Hensley. I felt the same way about Bichette Jr. coming into the season in 2014 and he bounced back in a big way in my opinion. Disagree if you want but D is #19 for me.

Here is the write up from Kyle McDaniel on Bichette Jr.:

Dante Bichette, 3B Video: Bichette is the son of the slugger by the same name; Junior came on late in his draft spring out of an Orlando-area high school to be a sandwich round pick. He’s had a hard time since signing of controlling his at times out of control swing that produces above average bat speed and raw power. He’s slowly making progress by having a more controlled two strike approach, but the Yankees would like to see him use that approach on every swing. After some fiddling, he seems to be close to dialing it in, but he has an adjustment period at each level and still hasn’t tapped into his power in games as much as he could. He’s also fringy at third base, with some scouts wanting to move his above average arm to right field, but the Yankees will leave him at third, as they see enough tools to be average with some work.

  1. I've stayed fairly quiet with this list so far, but now we're getting inside the top 20. I'm not saying Bichette isn't a top 20 prospect, but if Heathcott doesn't make the too 20, no way does Bichette.

    1. Why not? Like I mentioned about Ty Hensley. Both Heathcott and Bichette (along with Hensley) needed to bounce back and show the team they were worth hanging on to. Bichette did that. He bounced back offensively and showed he can play a whole season.

Hensley got hurt again and so did Heathcott. Bichette is also entering his third or fourth professional season while Heathcott is out of time and was DFA'd to get him off the 40 man. I love Heathcott and if he has a healthy season, or has had one in the last four or even five seasons (without looking) I'd have him a lot higher. He hasn't though so I stand by my ranking.

2014 wasn't a one season thing for Heathcott.

    2. Neither was it for Bichette, he is still a 3rd baseman with an avg+ arm and a touch above avg. glove! If he can show some more consistent pop in his bat he might make it as a 3rd baseman yet...maybe! One-half of a year makes him #19?
A healthy Heathcott is out of sight with talent but...is there anything he hasn't broken or injured?
Or better yet, has he got anything more he can injure? That guy has a very fragile body, to say the least!

    3. He had more than a half a year. He played well all season. He showed more consistency with his power as well as they found a flaw in his swing. Like I said Bichette Jr. had a great season two seasons ago, an off season, and then last season where he bounced back. That shows me that 2013 was (probably) the exception and not the rule.

Heathcott would have to be injury free for like three consecutive seasons to change my mind on him.

    4. You do know how much I HATE the word IF but, in this case it would fit!

IF Heathcott could learn to stay healthy...not running into walls, diving for balls, sliding into bases to hard etc....we would have one hell of an outfielder! He has everything except a healthy injury free season his (fragile) body can't seem to stay away from the hospital.

One huge caveat to that is...if he didn't play the way he plays, he wouldn't be the player he is.

    5. But he hasn't been playing balls to the wall the last two seasons or so... now he is dealing with lower body, knee specifically, issues.
