TGP Trivia and Fact of the Day for March 7th, 2019
Good morning Yankees family!
The Yankees pitchers threw 24 total shutouts in 1951, a club record. Allie Reynolds threw seven complete-game shutouts himself to lead the team.
And a special good morning to my beautiful, amazing wife. I love you so very much, more than I could ever put into words.

I Love Stats: Yankees Trade Joe Gordon
On this day in 1946 the New York Yankees traded second baseman Joe Gordon to the Cleveland Indians for right handed starting pitcher Allie Reynolds. The future Hall of Famer ended his Yankees career with exactly 1,000 games played and exactly 1,000 hits.

This Day In New York Yankees History 4/19: Gossage Hurt in Fight w/ Teammate
Also on this day in 1960 Roger Maris made his New York Yankees debut going 4-5 while batting leadoff on Opening Day. Maris racked up 11 bases, including two home runs and a double, and saw the Yankees win 8-4 over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Also on this day in 1949 Babe Ruth joined Lou Gehrig and Miller Huggins in receiving a center field monument from the Yankees after their deaths. Ruth died eight months prior before joining Monument Park in Yankee Stadium.
Also on this day in 1948 Yankees pitcher Allie Reynolds refused to leave second base after hitting his first and only home run of his career. Allie thought the Washington Senators were trying to trick him as he did not see the ball clear the left field fence. Obviously Reynolds, in front of President Truman, eventually was convinced enough to run the bases.
Finally on this day in 1939 Joe DiMaggio learned the news that he was engaged and planned to marry that summer to actress Dorthy Arnold. DiMaggio quickly shot down the rumors saying that no ceremony would take place during the baseball season and the two wed in November of that year.

I Love Stats: Yankees Trade Joe Gordon
I have done these posts a few times now because like the
title states, I love stats. I love it when the stars align and things end the
way they should. For instance, Derek Jeter finished his postseason career with
an even 200 hits and Mariano Rivera finished with an even 42 saves, the number
he wore on his back.
On this day in 1946 the New York Yankees traded second
baseman Joe Gordon to the Cleveland Indians for right handed starting pitcher

All Time New York Yankees Team - The Bullpen
Mariano Rivera
Goose Gossage
Dave Righetti
Johnny Murphy
Sparky Lyle
Allie Reynolds
To nobody's surprise Mariano Rivera is at the top of this list as Mo is the greatest closing pitcher of all time on any team, especially the New York Yankees. Before Mo made a failed attempt at being a starter in 1995 and was moved to the set up man spot in 1996 to only start his march towards being the greatest closer of all time the Yankees greatest closer was widely regarded as Goose Gossage. Dave Righetti was a great Yankees closer in the 80's for those terrible Yankees teams that everybody wants to forget.
Johnny Murphy is a name that many of you may not remember or know but I will leave it to you to check the stats. He was the greatest Yankees closer before the closer position was really established. He was more of a Yankees finisher then a closer but either way I want him in my bullpen. Sparky Lyle is my guy that will get left handed batters outs, a LOOGY before the LOOGY had a name. Yankees bullpen standout and has to have a spot in my bullpen as well. Allie Reynolds could have been put in the rotation or in the bullpen which is why I sort of took advantage of his versatility to put him in the last spot in this bullpen.

This Day In New York Yankees History 10/11
On this day in 1946 the Yankees traded second basemen Joe Gordon to the St. Louis Cardinals for Allie Reynolds. Gordon finished his Yankees career playing in exactly 1,000 games and collecting 1,000 hits before being elected into the Hall of Fame when he retired.
On this day in 2000 the Yankees banged out eight hits in Game 2 of the ALCS setting a new record for hits in an inning in a post season game. The Yankees beat the Mariners 7-1 and would win the series and eventually the World Series this season.
On this day in 2006 recently acquired Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle and his flight instructor Tyler Stanger would die as their four seat airplane crashes into a Upper East Side high rise building. Manny Acta, the Mets third base coach at the time, was living in the Belaire Condominiums that Lidle crashed into at the time.
On this day in 2009 the New York Yankees would beat the Twins 4-1 to advance to the ALCS behind a strong series from Alex Rodriguez. What makes this day and game significant is because it is the last game that will ever be played at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.
