Game Thread: New York Yankees vs. Chicago White Sox 4/18

Damn New York, back at it again with those Chicago White Sox. The New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox will continue their three-game set this week in the Bronx with the middle game of the series in the Bronx. Tonight the Yankees will send Luis Severino to the mound looking to keep the Yankees impressive home record, well, impressive while the White Sox will counter with an old Yankee-killer in Miguel Gonzalez. The game will be played at 7:05 pm ET inside Yankee Stadium and can be seen on the YES Network, MLB Network and MLB TV. Game Preview: New York Yankees vs. Chicago White Sox 4/18

The New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox will continue their three-game set this week in the Bronx with the middle game of the series tonight inside Yankee Stadium. The Yankees have been pretty dominant at home this season and the team presumably hopes to keep the good times rolling tonight with a victory over the Sox. The Yankees will send Luis Severino to the mound looking to do just that for New York while the White Sox will counter with an old thorn in the Yankees side from his Baltimore days, Miguel Gonzalez.

Severino had easily his best start of the season last time out when he struck out a career-high 11 Tampa Bay Rays picking up his first victory as a starter since the 2015 season. Severino had a good fastball and slider but his changeups were also keeping batters off-balanced all day long. It is starts like this that make me shake my head when anyone questions whether the Yankees should give him every opportunity to fail as a starter or if they should simply delegate him to bullpen duties for the remainder of his career and tenure here.

Gonzalez as stated above has been a thorn in the Yankees side ever since he broke into the league and this was never more evident than his last start against the club on July 6, 2016. In the start Gonzalez completely shut down the Yankees with seven shutout innings in a 5-0 White Sox victory, although that start came at home and not inside Yankee Stadium where Gonzalez has allowed 8 ER in his last two games against the Yankees.

Game Thread: New York Yankees @ Chicago White Sox 7/6

The New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox will finish off their three game set tonight inside US Cellular Field with another great pitching matchup. Tonight the Yankees will send Big Mike, and I feel like for the first time this season I can get away with calling him Big Mike again, Michael Pineda to the mound to square off with Miguel Gonzalez for the White Sox. The game will be played at 8:10 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.

The Yankees have one more series with the Cleveland Indians before the All-Star break and before beginning a tough schedule in the second half of the 2016 season. That second half schedule will make or break the Yankees as they have head-to-head matchups with the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants and others. Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Chicago White Sox 7/6

The finale between the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox will take place today leaving just a couple games in a game days before we get the All Star break. I don’t know about you but I could use the All-Star break to recharge the batteries and I’m sure a lot of the Yankees players could as well. So in the finale of this three game set the Yankees will send Michael Pineda to the mound looking to continue his recent trend of good starts while the White Sox will counter with Miguel Gonzalez.

Pineda has been excellent over his last six starts which began after a slight adjustment to his delivery and arm angle was suggested by pitching coach Larry Rothschild. Pineda has posted a 2.74 ERA in that span and has held opposing batters to just a .201 batting average. The return of Big Mike ladies and gentleman.

Gonzalez will be making his 14^th career start against the New York Yankees tonight after seeing a lot of them as a member of the Baltimore Orioles. In his career Gonzalez owns a 3-4 record against the Bronx Bombers so here’s to hoping Gonzalez, like the Yankees this season, is afraid of the .500 mark.

The game will be played at 8:10 pm ET inside US Cellular Field and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV. Any series where the Yankees don’t see Chris Sale or Jose Quintana should be a win but this series did not go according to plan. Truth be told the Yankees should have swept this series but so is baseball and so is life. Let’s just get a win and get the hell out of dodge. Go Yankees!

Game Thread: New York Yankees vs. Chicago White Sox 5/15

One last time. The New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox. In the finale of this three-game set between, statistically, one of the best teams in the American League vs. one of the worst teams in the American League we will all watch as Masahiro Tanaka takes the mound for the Yankees and Miguel Gonzalez takes the mound for the White Sox. The game will be played at 1:05 PM ET inside of Yankee Stadium and can be seen on WPIX Channel 11, MLB Network and MLB TV.

The Yankees are leaving on a jet plane after this game as they head out west to the desert to take on the Arizona Diamondbacks in their first interleague matchup of the season. In that series Michael Pineda, Nathan Eovaldi and Luis Severino will all take their hacks as they attempt to hit one into the pool out there beyond the outfield wall. The Yankees Offense vs. Miguel Gonzalez

With Miguel Gonzalez a familiar face to many of these Yankees hitters after spending his career with the Baltimore Orioles I thought it would be a good opportunity to take a look at how he has fared against New York in his career. While we wait for the game this afternoon this is a good way to pass the time as we look at how dominant Gonzalez has been against the Yankees and how certain hitters have simply had his number.

Game Preview: New York Yankees vs. Chicago White Sox 5/15

Another afternoon game in the Bronx between the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox and yet another great pitching matchup for both clubs. This afternoon in the finale of their three-game set the Yankees will send their ace and their stopper Masahiro Tanaka to the mound to face off with Miguel Gonzalez for the White Sox. The Yankees need any and every win they can muster right now and they have their best chance at a victory on the mound searching for it. The stars have aligned and now the team just has to make it happen.

Tanaka battled through possibly his worst start of the season last time out like any ace would. Tanaka allowed six earned runs and three home runs but still managed to give the Yankees seven innings at just 79 pitches thrown marking the first time this season that Tanaka had allowed more than two earned runs in a game. Let’s not make it happen twice.

Gonzalez has seen the Yankees plenty as a former member of the Baltimore Orioles and will be seeing his old foes today for the first time in a White Sox uniform. Gonzalez is fresh off a good start against the Texas Rangers last time out where he threw 5.2 innings earning a no-decision cementing his job as the team’s fifth starter.

The game will be played at 1:05 pm ET inside of Yankee Stadium and can be seen on WPIC Channel 11, MLB Network and MLB TV. The Yankees travel to Arizona after the game for their first matchup with the Arizona Diamondbacks this season. The Yankees cannot look ahead to Zack Greinke, Shelby Miller and praying nightly for their pitchers to not get hurt while hitting or running the bases though, they need to win this game this afternoon in the Bronx. Go Yankees!!

Yankees ST: Baltimore Orioles @ New York Yankees 3/18

The New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles will head down to Tampa, Florida today to face off head-to-head in their latest Grapefruit League schedules. As spring training inches closer towards conclusion these starts are becoming more and more important for both the pitchers and the positional players. No one needs these starts more though than maybe today's Yankee starter CC Sabathia. Sabathia struggled in his last start and will look to turn things around today inside George M. Steinbrenner Field against Miguel Gonzalez and the Baltimore Orioles.

The game will be played at 6:35 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.

Game Thread: Baltimore Orioles @ New York Yankees 5/8

The New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles play tonight under the bright lights in the Bronx in front of what is expected to be a rather large crowd inside Yankee Stadium tonight. The two men with all the pressure to put on a good show for this large gathering of fans will be Adam Warren for the Yankees and Miguel Gonzalez for the Orioles. The game will be played at 7:05 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.

You only have two day games left in the Bronx after tonight before the team heads back out onto the road to continue their schedule. Game Preview: Baltimore Orioles @ New York Yankees 5/8

Tonight the New York Yankees stay home inside Yankee Stadium to play host to Adam Jones and the Baltimore Orioles in the second of a four game set. This will be the final night game for these two this series as the next two contests will be played in the afternoon at Yankee Stadium. Tonight the Yankees will send Adam Warren to the mound as he faces off with a thorn in the Yankees side named Miguel Gonzalez for the Orioles. The game will be played at 7:05 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.

• Warren is coming off a start in which he allowed four runs in 5.2 innings against the Boston Red Sox in a victory on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball. That start actually marked the third consecutive outing that Warren has pitched 5.2 innings as he continues to look for a start in which he can finish the 6^th inning. Warren recorded his second victory of the season in the start and looks for win number three against another tough American League East opponent tonight.

• Gonzalez is also coming off a victory in which he allowed just four hits and one walk in 7.2 shutout innings against the Tampa Bay Rays. Gonzalez recorded six strikeouts in the contest and looks to remain tough against the American League East and especially tough against the Yankees tonight in the Bronx.

New York heads back out on the road after this quick little four game set in the Bronx and after having their five series winning streak snapped against Toronto it would be nice to go back out on the road with a series victory. Truth be told I would honestly be happy with a split with this tough team but you don’t start a blog called the Greedy Pinstripes and clamor for a split, I want a win! Go Yankees, get me that win!

It’s game time ladies and gentleman as the New York Yankees and CC Sabathia face off against Miguel Gonzalez and the Baltimore Orioles inside beautiful Camden Yards and Oriole Park. It’s always fun to watch a game between these two clubs as each team always brings their best stuff to the ball park against each other. Buck Showalter is usually good for at least one douche bag comment or move as well per series so maybe that comment or move comes tonight, who knows. One thing I do know is that you were fired over 20 years ago Buck, time to move on and get over yourself. The game will be played at 7:05 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network, MASN 2 and MLB TV.

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Baltimore Orioles 4/14

The New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles play game two of their three game series tonight in Camden Yards and Oriole Park with another great pitching matchup. For the Yankees CC Sabathia makes his second start of the young season against the Orioles Miguel Gonzalez. The game will be played at 7:05 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network, MASN 2 and of course MLB TV.

Sabathia’s line from his first start of the season looked terrible but if you actually watched the game you would know that there was quite a few positives to pull from. Sabathia did allow five runs, four earned, but many of them were off little flares and broken bat singles that were aided by a sketchy defense and a few mental mistakes from his teammates. Sabathia did go for 95 pitches in the start and looks to be completely stretched out, and more importantly healthy, for the grind that will be the 2015 season.

Gonzalez is coming off his first start of the season in which he took a loss despite allowing just one run on three hits in 5.2 IP. Gonzalez did issue five walks but did strikeout five in the loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. Let’s hope that wild and inefficient arm is on full display tonight in the Bronx.

It’s supposed to be another beautiful night at one of the most beautiful stadiums in all of Major League Baseball and nothing can make that any better than a Yankees victory. Let’s get one and let’s make sure we’re supporting our team. Go Yankees!!!

Bullpen Escapes Multiple Jams to Help Yankees Sneak Past Orioles

Shane Greene threw 5 1/3 innings of two-run ball and Brian McCann hit his nineteenth home run of the season today as the Yankees bounced back nicely from yesterday's doubleheader sweep to beat the Orioles, 3-2, in game three at Camden Yards. 

In this one's top of the first, strangely, the inconsistent Yanks' offense went down on just five pitches, a frustrating inconvenience that appeared to make them in for a long day.

Instead, though, a few timely hits in the top of the second off Miguel Gonzalez (6 IP, 3 ER) eventually led them to victory, with the aforementioned homer by McCann starting, but not ending, the scoring.

Because after McCann went deep, surprisingly, Mark Teixeira worked a walk and the red-hot Chris Young doubled him to third, setting up a clutch RBI Single by Antoan Richardson and an intelligent double-steal that plated Young.

No, from that point on the Yanks' bats didn't continue to threaten, but due to the solid performance of the recently-lousy Greene in which nine O's struck out and a trio of escape acts by Josh Outman, Shawn Kelley, and David Robertson in the last three frames New York found a way to retain their lead, a fortunate happening that brought them to within 4 1/2 of the second wild card spot.
