Fun Things to do This Weekend besides Watch the Yankees

This post is all in fun, please treat it as such.

The New York Yankees travel home to the Bronx tonight to play host to the Boston Red Sox in the first of a three-game set. We’ve all watched the Yankees this season and in the immortal words of myself on twitter, the Yankees suck! Not really but they aren’t playing exceptionally well and they especially struggled against the Boston Red Sox in a sweep inside Fenway Park last weekend. Do you really want to sit at home or sit inside Yankee Stadium and watch the Yankees lose three more games against a guy that looks like Shrek, a guy that looks like a garden gnome, a guy that got arrested for stealing laptops in college and a guy that refused to shave his beard to come to the Yankees? I know I don’t so here are a few fun ideas to do this weekend besides watch the Yankees.

Captain America Civil War is coming out in theaters. I’m not a big movie guy personally and I’m especially not a big superhero movie guy, although I did enjoy Deadpool, but this one looks good. It may be worth checking it out if you can’t wait for it to come out on the internet.

The NBA playoffs are going on as are the NHL playoffs. Again, not a huge fan of either but I will check in with the NBA playoffs from time to time. 

Read a book. The good people at Summer Game Books have been nice enough to send me some complimentary copies of their baseball related books in PDF format that I need to catch up on. I think I will! 

The Walking Dead: Road to Survival game for iOS and Android is incredibly addicting. Incredibly. 

Go outside and do something. It’s good for the soul! 

And the final thing you can do for fun this weekend besides watching the New York Yankees is to go to your local Wal Mart after 9:00 pm. That sounds incredibly boring on paper but just try it and thank me later. There is always something going on after 9:00 pm. PeopleofWalMart.com stuff going on. You’re welcome.

The offseason is here, the Winter Meetings are over and many of the top tiered free agents are already off the board. What in the world are we going to do all winter long? Binge watch shows on Netflix? Catch up on school/work/house work? Spend time with family? Nah, probably not. Playing video games on your phone instead of doing school work or house work or your actual work is always an option though. I spend most of my time on 9 Innings Manager.

Basically you can draft players, trade players and build your team from an expansion team to the Major Leagues. You can fight for playoff spots, MVP Awards and face off against the AI or a friend. You are the manager though, you don’t actually get to play the simulation. It’s still fun though and I have built a pretty beast team. Join us!

The offseason is long, cold and boring at times so why not spend your winter playing video games? Words to live by, yeah I know. When the playoffs are over and the World Series is won some of you will switch over to the NFL, then to the NBA before coming back to Major League Baseball but I’m not much of a fan of either leagues. I’m a gamer, as much of a gamer as my wife, two kids and two jobs will allow me to be anyway, and I found a great baseball game that we can play together. Tap Sports Baseball 2015.

I’m not being paid to play or promote this game in anyway, I truly just like the game and enjoyed playing with our Twitter followers and readers in the 2014 version of the game. It’s fun. It’s not as deep as MLB The Show 15 or as arcade oriented as RBI Baseball, it’s just simple and fun, yet competitive.

My MLB The Show 15 Simulation of the 2015 Season

MLB The Show 15 is the only reason that I bought a Playstation 4 because it's simply the best and most realistic game in the history of baseball console games. Well if you're a Yankees fan you're hoping that the game is THAT realistic because I had some pretty favorable results. I have seen a couple of these done where the Yankees finished in last place so I don't know what I did differently than anybody else. All I did was make Alex Rodriguez and Didi Gregorius everyday players and I kept Chris Capuano starting all season long. Anyway on with the results:

New York Yankees 90-73

Boston Red Sox 89-74

Baltimore Orioles 85-77

Toronto Blue Jays 82-80

Tampa Bay Rays 66-96

The team made the playoffs and faced off with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the first round of the American League playoffs. Tanaka got shelled in the first game as the Yankees fell to the Angels 5-0. CC Sabathia came back with a strong Game Two to even the series up at 1-1. Michael Pineda was ineffective in Game 3 against Jered Weaver as the Yankees faced elimination with Nathan Eovaldi on the mound. Eovaldi pitched well but the Yankees bullpen, namely David Carpenter, blew the game late and the Yankees were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

Dellin Betances had 45 saves. 60 strikeouts and a 2.85 ERA while Andrew Miller had a 3.50 ERA with two saves and 60 strikeouts. David Carpenter and Adam Warren got beat up along the way while Justin Wilson was surprisingly strong for the pen.

I love the game Tap Sports Baseball because it's pretty simple, it's free and it's fun and addictive. The best part about it is you can play against your Facebook friends, other friends if you know their team names and just random opponents and AI. You can spend a ton of time playing this game because it's well done, polished and pretty legit for a free game.

Last year more than a few of you joined us on the 2014 version when we were pretty established and dominant but this time around I have played a total of four games before posting this. RBI Baseball Will Return in 2015

This is not really New York Yankees related, prospects related or really anything but video games related but it excites me so sue me. RBI Baseball made its triumphant return to consoles, iOS and handheld phones and devices and will return for its sophomore season in 2015. RBI Baseball 2015 is happening!

Anthony Rizzo of the Chicago Cubs will be the cover athlete for the game which will showcase newly re-designed stadiums for all 30 MLB teams, online game PvP play, stat tracking through season mode, 25 man rosters and 40 man rosters.

Before we get started I just want to say that this is not a paid advertisement or promotion or anything like that, I just really like the game and want some people to play against. With that said, do you guys and girls enjoy playing baseball games on your iPhones? I have RBI Baseball 14 for my arcade game fix and I have MLB The Show on the Playstation for my in depth and realistic fix but sometimes I just like something simple and fun to play. Tap Sports Baseball is that.

It probably helps, as you can see from the graphic above, that I am pretty good at the game. It’s simple, it’s fun, and it’s free. The ads are a little annoying sometimes but that’s what you get with free games I guess. Anyway join us on the app and play against, shoot us a message, whatever. It’s going to be a long offseason so we need something to pass the time with.

Quick Hit: I Wish This Was RBI Baseball 14

Boy do I wish this season was RBI Baseball 14, things would be so much better. I am not much of a gamer anymore but I did purchase RBI Baseball 14 for my iPhone, $4.99 in the app store case you were wondering, and I am loving every minute of it. With two kids, a wife, a 40+ hour a week job, another writing job on the side, and you guys I don’t get much time to play anymore but I did finally finish the month of April with surprising statistics.

Keep in mind that I could not hit for crap in my first four games for whatever reason. I was either early on everything, I pounded perfect pitches into the ground, or the defense just flat out robbed me. I also pretty much skipped the tutorial and thought I could do it my own way and started the season 1-4. I finished the month of April 20-7 and lead the American League East by 1.5 games over the Boston Red Sox and have the best record in the American League. Two teams, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies, have better records than me in the National League.

My best pitcher by far has been Hiroki Kuroda. I could face the suckiest(not a word but stay with me because I used it for emphasis) batter in the game and still give up a single using CC Sabathia in this game making me wonder if I just suck with him or if the game is that realistic. My best hitter has been Alfonso Soriano and my best clutch hitter has been Brian Roberts. Yeah, they need a roster update and no, it’s not realistic. I just suck with Sabathia.  

Imagine if RBI Baseball were real and Alfonso Soriano and Brian Roberts had great seasons with the Yankees. Imagine if Tanaka was still pitching and Yangervis Solarte was coming off the bench somehow with a 1.000 batting average in nine at bats. Imagine if the Yankees made the playoffs this season.

The New York Yankees are off today before they host a double header tomorrow against the Toronto Blue Jays so I am spending the off day playing videos.
