Yankees Send Two to All-Star Futures Game in 2017

The All-Star Game and their festivities in Major League Baseball is one of, if not the greatest All-Star Game set in all of the four major sports. Sure everyone gets hyped over the slam dunk contest in the NBA and many people enjoy the Pro Bowl in the NFL but no one puts on a show quite like Major League Baseball. You have the Home Run Derby, you have the actual All-Star Game itself and you also have the XM Futures Game which showcases top prospects from around the league representing not only their team but their countries as well. It has become quite an honor to represent your team and country in the XM Futures Game over the years and two members of the New York Yankees will be representing the team and Team World here in 2017, Domingo Acevedo and Estevan Florial.

Acevedo is currently pitching with the Double-A Trenton Thunder while Florial is an outfielder with the Charleston Riverdogs. Florial was born in Port Au Prince, Haiti while Acevedo was born in Villa los Almacigos in the Dominican Republic.

It’s also worth mentioning that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Toronto Blue Jays Class-A team and Yoan Moncada of the Chicago White Sox Triple-A team will be teammates of both Acevedo and Florial in the game.

Weekly Prospects Check In: Jorge Mateo

You know I would really like to be a fly on the wall in some of the rooms the Yankees and their top executives make decisions in. Jorge Mateo screwed up and he was suspended for two weeks for it while missing out on the XM Futures Game this season. Mateo paid his dues yet it seems like the Yankees want to really send the message home that standing up, speaking out or whatever it was that mateo did to warrant the suspension will not be tolerated.

Mateo has done enough, in my opinion anyway, to warrant a promotion to Double-A Trenton Thunder yet the Yankees haven’t given him that. Fine. Now the team is sending Gleyber Torres to the Arizona Fall League to represent the Yankees and the Scottsdale Scorpions while Mateo’s season will be over here in a few weeks altogether. You have to wonder if this has anything to do with the Yankees still trying to send that message from the suspension, whether there is something we don’t know about (i.e an injury that he is nursing) or what is really going on that led to Mateo not being there.

Tyler Wade is going as an outfielder, although I’m sure he’ll play some middle infield as well, yet Mateo is going home for the winter. I don’t get it ladies and gentleman, I just don’t.

Most Popular Article of the Week: A Look At Yankees Newest #1 Prospect, Clint Frazier

By Patrick Hennessy seen HERE:

The Yankees have currently acquired the Cleveland Indians former #1 prospect OF Clint Frazier in a deal which sent Yankee Closer Andrew Miller to the Tribe. Frazier is a bright young prospect that we should take a look and welcome him to the organization with open arms.

Let's start out with this: Clint Frazier born September 6, 1994 in Loganville, GA is the Yankees new prized prospect acquired from the Indians. Frazier is an outfielder who mainly plays the corners but could play centerfield if needed. He is 6'1" and weighs 190 lb. He is currently only 21 years old so if he makes his debut sometime next season then that would mean he would be debuting at a very young 22 years old.

Now what makes Clint Frazier so special? He was the first high school position player selected in the 2013 draft taken with the 5th overall pick from the Cleveland Indians and he received a franchise-record $3.5 million signing bonus. He then went on to lead the high Class A Carolina League in hits (143), doubles (36) and total bases (233) in 2015 and then he performed very well in Double-A this year playing in 89 games with a slash line of .276/.356/.469 with 13 HR and 13 SB. He will come to the Yankees Triple-A affiliate the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders and will team up in the outfield with fellow top Yankees propsect Aaron Judge once he returns from injury in about 4 or 5 days.

Here are Clint Fraziers scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 60 | Run: 55 | Arm: 55 | Field: 50 | Overall: 55. Scouts say Frazier's bat speed and raw power are among the best in the Minor Leagues and suggests that his ceiling in the MLB could be an All-Star. This is part of the reason Frazier earned himself a trip to the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game in July. His strikeout and walk rates are trending in a positive directions which is a really positive sign for a guy who mainly hits for power.

It will be interesting to see how Frazier's career will progress within the Yankees organization but the only thing that we know for sure is that he has a very bright future.

Weekly Prospects Check In: Jorge Mateo

Jorge Mateo returned from his two week suspension on Wednesday as he continues to search for what else he could possibly do to earn a promotion to Double-A Trenton. Mateo was suspended just before the All-Star break and the XM Futures Game for a violation of team policy which we all presumed and assumed meant that he spouted off at the mouth because he was frustrated that he wasn’t called up yet. At least that would coincide with the report from George A. King that stated Mateo was frustrated that he hadn’t received the promotion yet.

So Mateo is back and here are his stats he hopes to see transferred to the Trenton Thunder very soon:

Weekly Prospects Check In: Gary Sanchez

The New York Yankees had one representative in the XM Futures Game on Sunday night and he is our weekly check in for the day, Gary Sanchez. This is the second time the Yankees catcher has represented the Yankees organization and Team World in the game and will likely be the last, especially with the August 1st trade deadline looming. In the contest Sanchez went 0-2 in the contest with a strikeout and a batter left on base. Could have been better, could have been much worse.

Enjoy the All Star Game tonight everyone!

Weekly Prospects Check In: Domingo Acevedo

You know it's a shame, in my opinion of course, that Domingo Acevedo was not chosen to represent the Yankees in the XM Futures Game. It's especially a shame since Jorge Mateo will not represent the team this afternoon inside Petco Park but it's whatever. That doesn't mean Acevedo hasn't been the absolute stud that we all know he has it just means there are only so many spots and only so many talented players can fill them. Acevedo deserves to be there though, again in my opinion.

If it's bothering Acevedo it's not showing in his on-the-field product though. Check it out.

Weekly Prospects Check In: Tyler Austin

Christopher Tyler Austin may not be representing the New York Yankees at the Futures Game tomorrow afternoon inside Petco Park but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a potential future with the organization. Ever since receiving his call up to Triple-A to play first base beside Nick Swisher the Yankees right-hander has been absolutely on a tear at the plate. Tyler Austin is on fire. Swisher is out of the picture now as he takes the remainder of the summer off to spend time with his family and his newly born daughter, congrats to Nick, JoAnna and family by the way, leaving one less obstacle in the way for Austin to reach the Bronx.

Here is what Austin has been doing this week and this season with the RailRiders:

Weekly Prospects Check In: Jorge Mateo

Over the weekend as a part of the All-Star Game festivities in San Diego the Yankees were originally slated to send two of their top prospects to the XM Futures Game. The Futures Game, which features Team World vs. Team USA, is a huge honor given to each team’s top prospects and the game is meant to be a showcase of the future talent that is making their way into the game in the coming years. The representative for the New York Yankees is Gary Sanchez and no longer today’s check in, Jorge Mateo.

This is an honor for any prospect and I’m sure it’s an honor that Mr. Mateo did not taking lightly. Unfortunately though he has been suspended for two weeks for a violation of the team’s policy and he will no longer be allowed to go to the game. This has to be an even bigger disappointment for him than it is for us, the fans. More on this later.

Gary Sanchez Trade Rumors & Jorge Mateo Suspended

Here is a quick post to get you caught up before tonight's opener with the Cleveland Indians.

Reportedly the Chicago White Sox have at least asked for Gary Sanchez in a trade with the New York Yankees. The talks never went far as the Yankees asking price for Sanchez was deemed "far too high" but the discussions were had nonetheless. Chicago needs a catcher and the Yankees don't have to trade Sanchez so it makes sense that the asking price was substantial, because it should be. It's about time other teams get to overpay New York rather than the other way around.

Jorge Mateo has been suspended for two weeks. That suspension is due to a violation of team policy, although nothing specifically has been released, and it will cause the young shortstop/second baseman to miss the XM Futures Game. Mateo has been reportedly frustrated with his lack of a call up from High-A Tampa to Double-A Trenton and who could blame him? He's tore up the affiliate and deserved the promotion. That doesn't mean what he did was right, not at all, but still I am merely saying I can relate to his frustration and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
