This Day In New York Yankees History 8/15: Mickey Mantle's Funeral

My apologies in advance for the somber beginning to your Friday morning but on this day in 1995 the New York Yankees and many around baseball attended the funeral services for Mickey Mantle. At the request of the Mantle family Bob Costas delivered the eulogy for Mickey. I can't say anymore, just watch below and get goosebumps like I did. Happy Friday everyone and RIP Mickey Mantle.

  1. ELLIJAY...no apologies for a somber beginning to a new day.

In short order, you will be delivering another funeral comment. Sorry, but you know this is
playing itself out. Eight out, fifteen out.....what difference.
Fat contracts, older players, and no bold moves....will be here for a while.

Thank you on your comment on my post, re: The Mantle funeral, and Phil Rizzuto.
The saddest thing I ever listened to. Rizzuto, confused, and very emotional....he could not
understand why he told to stay in Boston, to do a broadcast. It went on for the entire game.
My heart went out to him.

  2. I want to agree patrick (little p patrick) but I think this team has one more good run in them, even if it's just enough to break our hearts. last year's team did it and got within a game of the postseason, we can too.

Must have been hard to do for Scooter, something I don't think I could have done. There will be other jobs. Won't be other friends necessarily.

    1. That was a very tough one for the little guy, that is for sure.
Trouble with getting too old, all your friends are long gone.
