Yankees' Reliever Kelley Beginning to Realize the Obvious

If you've followed the Yankees at all lately, it's no secret that they're currently free-falling in both the AL East and AL Wild Card standings.

After getting swept in a rain-shortened two-game series in Baltimore this week, they're now eight out in their race for the division, something that only gets worse when you consider they're also four behind the Tigers for a spot in the one-game playoff.

Now obviously, neither of those numbers are too likable, but since the latter does a seem a lot more achievable it'd be logical to strive for it instead of the aforementioned East, a fact Yanks Reliever Shawn Kelley appeared to realize in an article recently published by The LoHud Yankees Blog.

“I think we’re looking more at the second wild-card spot," Kelley said Wednesday. "That’s a little bit better number. It’s a little more achievable at this point."

To say it's a little easier to get right now definitely appears to be an understatement, as New York has gone just 3-8 against the Orioles this season.

Could they technically still find a way to take the division? Yes, but when you consider the fact that they haven't been able to win consistently this year you can't help but think of it as extremely unlikely, even if things do somehow turn around this weekend.
