Twitter Poll: Should MLB Scrap the Draft?

Just one day after the MLB Draft is over and done with for another year leave it to me to beg the question whether Major League Baseball should scrap the whole idea or not. That’s me though, always asking the questions that most bloggers and paid writers refuse to ask because it’s not click worthy. So I beg the question, should Major League Baseball abandon the draft altogether and adapt a policy much like the international free agency market giving all the power of choice back to the players and not the teams? If yes, why? If no, why not?

To be involved in our next Twitter Poll be sure to head over and give @GreedyStripes a follow. Then be on the lookout for our next Twitter Poll tweet which I promise will not be months from now like the last one. We need to get you guys, the readers and the fans, involved more and I’ve been slacking at that due to frustration with the team this year. That ends today.

  1. Any of those people who say its better for the Yanks obviously have no clue about there business model which is not to spend money.

    1. When they get under the cap, watch out! Hopefully they will buy a game changer type player or two. The cap is the reason why they don't want him to get high priced players with long contacts.

    2. Wait a minute Reed, aren't you the guy along with me that says Hal is a tightwad and wont spend money? We both agree on that so what makes you think he is spending when they get under the cap. Don't be fooled by this team. They may have beat the Angels but look at what shape the Angels are in. This team is a fraud

    3. Hal will spend money but he won't spend it like his father. I can see Hal keeping a payroll in the $170 million range currently and around $185 if and when the luxury tax threshold goes up to $200 million as expected this offseason.

    4. Dont bet your life on it!!!

    5. the ridiculous part- the only way to reduce payroll while getting better pieces is by trading away pieces. which cashman cant and wont do. there are still too many morons thinking we are the best in the AL. currently having an argument- jackass thinks we have the best pitching staff in the AL. share the drugs.

    6. Ok, who are you going to trade CC, Beltran, A-Rod, Headley and Ellsbury? That would clear about $178m from the payroll, right? Who is dumb enough to trade for them?
Our staff is not that bad, the best...no, but they have been good enough to have won many more games than they have so far...IF we had a bat or two!

    7. Reed they can clear a great deal of money. Chapman McCann Gardner and Belran all should be traded. McCann isn't doing squat but has gotten a free pass. Daryl is right anyone with half a clue knows that these guys must leave the building. We are beating inferior teams and like I always says they tease you with a 7 game win streak and then suck again. You can't trade CC as he has been your best pitcher and if the elf trades away Chapman to the Cubs for that discussed package he should be let go the minute the trade is executed.

    8. Beltran, CC and Ellsbury could probably be moved. Would we have to eat some money on Ellsbury? Yeah but I bet my ass we could trade Beltran and CC today without eating a dollar.

No one wants A Rod and no one wants Headley unfortunately. Headley's defense is still good but his bat is MIA.

The point of the post is that with the 2nd Wild Card the Yankees WONT trade these guys to save money because they can make more money losing in the Wild Card round than they can being out of it completely in July.

    9. True Daniel, and money is the name of the game.
Beltran and CC were included because we could get more for them and they have enough left to make someone bite. I understand CC being our best pitcher right now, but everyone adjusts, so do hitters.
A-Rod and Headley are history at the end of the season anyhow, if A-Rod doesn't retire or make a deal for a buy out before then.

    10. aye, but 1,000 a year for the next 6 years is better than 1,000 in 2016, but whatever.

Reed! Ike davis! is that the big bat you summoned? lol.

i collect seaglass. yankees collect reject players.

  2. I have said 2017 or/and 2018-19 will be the time they spend money, when they get under the cap.

    1. I believe Hal knows and has already proven that he WILL spend money because spending money = more money in attendance, victories, merch etc. He bought McCann, Ellsbury, etc. He will do it, he just needs to do it smart.

    2. First Burch if you think this team has any shot of making the play in game you too are out of your mind and second Hal spent once and the Yanks were the only team not to sign a FA this past season. You have a better shot at me and Reed agreeing than the Yanks spending money. Both are slim and none

    3. Hans, IF I am still around in 2019, I will be the first to apologize if I am wrong about signing some (Very few) game changers (maybe only 2). As I see it we only will need 2 players 3 at the most, if one counts a pitcher.

    4. Reed I'm sure you will be around in 2019 disagreeing with me still so we have that to look forward to

    5. It's less whether I believe the team can make the second wild card and more what Hal and Cashman think.

If they think they can get that second wild card they will buy. We have seen it time and time again. Remember when they brought Alfonso Soriano back?

    6. This team is a tease and it shows you time and time again and Saturday and Sunday proves my point.

    7. It does hurt to lose with the #1 and #2 guys in the depth chart going on the mound that's for sure.
