BREAKING: Yankees Acquire Didi Gregorious

Hey look at this, a credible source reporting a big time deal involving the New York Yankees. What I take from Sweeny's tweet above is that the Detroit Tigers would acquire Shane Greene, the Yankees would acquire Didi Gregorious and the Arizona Diamondbacks would acquire some prospects.

Yes please, as much as I love Greeney.

UPDATE: It's a done deal. Gregorius is a Yankee.

  1. I hate to loose Greene as well, but I think we can all agree that this had to be done. Plus, it makes room for us to acquire a couple of starters. Maybe Lester and McCarthy. Plus, it was nice to see Cashman address a need instead of over stocking our already crowded bullpen with pieces we don't need. (Yes, I'm talking to you Mr. Wilson.)

  2. Greene can be replaced with a prospect, Banuelos, a player already on the team, Mitchell, or someone on the free agency market, Lester/Scherzer/Shields.

Gregorius or someone comparable is not in the farm system and anywhere close to ready, some have compared him to Brendan Ryan which I would find insulting, and unless you believe in Stephen Drew there is no better on the free agency market.

This trade makes a lot of sense for New York because it deals from depth and the easily replaced and fills a tough hole. It's not Tulo but it will work.
