Game Preview: New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays 4/20

The New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays continue their four-game set into the weekend tonight with the second game of the series inside Yankee Stadium. In the first matchup we watched as CC Sabathia and Aaron Sanchez squared off in a battle of the future for Toronto and the veteran presence for New York, and tonight we will all be entertained by an equally interesting matchup. Tonight the Yankees will send Sonny Gray to the mound to face off against Marco Estrada for the Blue Jays. Always fun against the Blue Jays, so let’s get to it in the Bronx.

Gray has reportedly been working on mechanical adjustments with pitching coach Larry Rothschild after the Boston Red Sox beat up on him in his last start to the tune of six runs allowed over three innings of work. In the start previous to his disaster in Boston the Yankees right-hander allowed just one run in four innings of work in Toronto while striking out eight.

Estrada had to leave his last start due to back spasms despite having a no-hitter going into the fourth inning. Estrada had trouble following through on his delivery in that start after the spasms began, but the team doctors have cleared him for his start tonight in the Bronx.

The game will be played at 7:05 pm ET inside Yankee Stadium and can be seen on the YES Network locally and MLB Network if you are out of the Yankees market. You can also follow along with the game on MLB TV, the MLB At-Bat app or by tuning into the Yankees radio broadcast with John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman on WFAN.

Enjoy the game, put up some crooked numbers, and go Yankees!!

Good Friday Game Thread: New York Yankees @ Toronto Blue Jays 3/30

Good evening, and welcome back to Yankees baseball as the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays continue their three-game set with the middle game of their series. In the opener we watched as Luis Severino and JA Happ attempted to keep the opposing offense down from the other team and tonight we are treated with the pitching matchup of Masahiro Tanaka taking the ball for the Yankees against Aaron Sanchez of the Blue Jays. The game will be played at 7:07 pm ET inside the Rogers Centre, eh, and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB Network. You can also follow along with the game by using MLB TV, the MLB.com app or by tuning into the Yankees radio broadcast on WFAN with John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman.

Good Friday Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Toronto Blue Jays 3/30

You know what possibly the best thing about Major League Baseball is? I personally love the fact that the games are played basically every single day. Sure, I love football and basketball as well from time to time, but watching your team lose on a Sunday only to have to feel that sting for a few days or a week can sometimes just be torture. In baseball if you have a tough loss on Sunday you usually go right back out on the field on Monday and can turn things around. At the same time a big win on Sunday can be erased just as fast the following Monday with a tough loss, it is just one of the many things that make the game great in my opinion. With that said the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays are back at it again tonight inside the Rogers Centre with the second game of their three-game set to open the 2018 season. Yesterday afternoon we all watched as JA Happ and Luis Severino squared off to kick off the season and tonight we are treated with another great pitching matchup. Masahiro Tanaka, who normally starts on Opening Day for New York, will take the mound for the Yankees while the Blue Jays will counter with Aaron Sanchez, who missed almost all of the 2017 season with an injury for Toronto.

Tanaka made his Major League debut pitching in the second game of the season back in 2014 against these same Toronto Blue Jays inside the Rogers Centre and he will do so again tonight after Luis Severino took the Opening Day nod from him here in 2018. Tanaka gave up a home run to the first batter he faced that season and gave up a ton of home runs in 2017, a career-high 35 long balls to be exact, which led the right-hander to focus on his fastball command and control in hopes of lowering that number significantly here in 2018.

Sanchez missed most of the 2017 campaign with Toronto due to lingering blister issues on his throwing hand. Sanchez has put to bed any rumors of this becoming a recurring issue this spring after showing no signs of trouble while in camp with the Blue Jays. In Sanchez’s final tune-up start before the season he allowed just one earned run in 6.1 innings pitched at home against the Atlanta Braves, hopefully a sign of what’s to come if you are a Blue Jays fan.

The game will be played at 7:07 pm ET inside the Rogers Centre in Toronto and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB Network. You can also follow along with the MLB TV and the MLB.com app or you can tune into the WFAN radio broadcast with John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman. No matter how you get to follow along enjoy the game and go Yankees!

Game Thread: New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays 9/6

Here we go ladies and gentleman as the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays continue what could be a huge series here in the Bronx. In the middle game of the three-game set this week the Yankees will send one of their young guns to the mound in Luis Cessa while the Blue Jays will counter with a young guy working under workload concerns in Aaron Sanchez. The latest biggest game of the season will be played at 7:05 pm ET inside Yankee Stadium and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.

Game Preview: New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays 9/6

The New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays will continue their three-game set this evening in the Bronx with the middle game of their series. We all watched afternoon Labor Day baseball yesterday afternoon with Masahiro Tanaka and RA Dickey going head-to-head yesterday and tonight we get another great pitching matchup. The Yankees will send one of their young guns to the mound in Luis Cessa while the Toronto Blue Jays will counter with Aaron Sanchez. Sanchez is always pesky against the Yankees so this could be a frustrating night for the Yankees and their fans alike, especially if Cessa doesn't pitch well.

Cessa will make his fourth career MLB start tonight against Toronto after facing the defending World Series champions last time out. Cessa had a no-decision against the Royals in his last start despite allowing four runs, three of them earned, in six innings. As a starter this season Cessa is 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA.

Sanchez is dealing with workload concerns this season which has left Toronto making tough decisions on when and how much the right-hander throws this season. Last time out Sanchez made his first start in 10 days against the Orioles and looked good allowing just one unearned run in over six innings of work. He will be on normal rest tonight in the Bronx.

The game will be played at 7:05 pm ET inside Yankee Stadium and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV. The biggest game of the Yankees season thus far happens tonight in the Bronx. Until tomorrow when it happens all over again. All these games are important  but they are only important if you take care of business and actually win more games than you lose. Go Yankees!

Game Thread: New York Yankees @ Toronto Blue Jays 6/1

What a way to kick off the month of June. We remembered Derek Jeter for all his greatness, we called for the job of the Yankees hitting coach and now we bring you tonight’s game thread for the finale between the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays. And people still ask me if baseball and blogging isn’t boring. Of course it isn’t, there is always something going on including the pitching matchup for tonight that includes Masahiro Tanaka for the Yankees and Aaron Sanchez for the Blue Jays. The game will be played at 7:07 pm ET inside the Rogers Centre and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.

The Yankees travel to Detroit after this game for a big weekend set with the Tigers but the Yankees return home to the Bronx, HOPE Week and Old Timers Day are all just around the corner. As the thermometer heats up so do the Yankees and the events at Yankee Stadium and if you want to see any of them live click the Yankees Tickets link at the top of the blog to visit our friends at Ticket Monster. There you can snag a pair of seats without being weighed down by bulky fees or annoying shipping costs like those other guys. Until then follow along on twitter and interact with us by giving @GreedyStripes a follow, we’re always around and we always try to get our readers and fellow Yankees fans involved in any way that we can.

Tanaka is ready to throw some splitters and Jose Bautista is ready for his Golden Sombrero so let’s get to it inside the Rogers Centre. Go Yankees!

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Toronto Blue Jays 6/1

Welcome ladies and gentleman to June baseball. Boy has this year been flying by and boy has this major league season been flying by as well. We’re already one-third of the way through the season and we’ve already seen the calendar change its pages twice. Welcome to June baseball once again. To kick off the month of June the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays will be finishing off a three-game series this week inside the Rogers Centre in Toronto. In the finale the Yankees will send their ace and stopper to the mound looking for a win in Masahiro Tanaka while the Jays will counter with a young stud of their own in Aaron Sanchez.

Tanaka heads into this start tonight on a modest two decision win streak where he has posted a 0.64 ERA in 14 innings. Granted those two starts were against the Oakland Athletics and the Tampa Bay Rays and not a potent offense like the Toronto Blue Jays but Tanaka held his own in his last start against them as well on April 12 taking a no-decision in five innings of work. Tanaka allowed just two runs in an eventual 3-2 Yankees victory.
Sanchez will be making his second start of the young season against the Yankees tonight looking to improve on his six inning no-decision on April 12. In the start Sanchez allowed just one earned run which was one of eight times in 10 starts this season that Sanchez has held the opposing team to three earned runs of fewer. Let’s not make it nine out of eleven tonight.

The game will be played at 7:07 pm ET inside the Rogers Centre and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV. The Yankees head to Detroit to take on the always tough Detroit Tigers after this contest but I have a feeling they aren’t looking ahead to that weekend series just yet. These Blue Jays always play the Yankees tough and that offense is as tough as ever, especially when you bat a guy like Jose Bautista leadoff. Hopefully Tanaka’s splitter is on point tonight and the Yankees get out of town with a win.

Go Yankees!

Game Preview: New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays 5/26

We had our fun now it’s time to get back to work and talk about the finale of the three-game set between the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays. Pitching has been the key for both teams, for better or for worse, in this series and that will likely be the case once again this afternoon in the Bronx. In the pitching matchup today the Yankees will send CC Sabathia to the mound who is making just his second start since coming off the disabled list while the Blue Jays will counter with JA Happ, a pitcher that strikes fear in Yankees left-handed hitters for all the wrong reasons. Injuries.

Sabathia pitched extremely well in his first start off the disabled list last week holding the Oakland Athletics to just one run on three hits in six innings of work. Sabathia looked good and his strained groin muscle looked completely healed in the start which is a great sign for New York going forward.

JA Happ was originally scheduled to pitch on Friday but will be bumped up a turn to make the start today allowing Aaron Sanchez an extra day of rest. Happ has been known to hurt left-handed hitting Yankees batters, Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson are recent examples of this, so I’d be happy just getting everyone out healthy and alive this afternoon in the Bronx.

The game will be played at 4:05 pm ET inside Yankee Stadium and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV. The Yankees presumably enjoyed their stay in the Bronx these three games but it’s back out on the road after this contest as the team takes the trip to Tampa Bay for the next three games. It’s a getaway game of sorts but it’s not a game the Yankees should look past. This team needs all the help, and the wins, that they can get at this point. Go Yankees!

Game Thread: New York Yankees @ Toronto Blue Jays 4/11

It feels like it’s been forever but technically it’s only been two days since we last saw the New York Yankees on the field this season. The game before Sunday’s game was rained out was an afternoon game and yesterday was a scheduled off day for New York as they traveled from Detroit to our neighbors from the north in Canada, the Toronto Blue Jays. There is no love lost between these two clubs after a bitter chase down the stretch last season in the AL East Division race last season. Today we will watch as Masahiro Tanaka takes the mound for New York to face off with Aaron Sanchez for the Blue Jays.

The game will be played at 7:07 pm ET inside the Rogers Centre and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV. It can also be heard on the radio with John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman on WFAN.

Be sure to click the Yankees Tickets link at the top of the blog to get your Yankees tickets in hand before the team returns home to the Bronx. Don’t worry, Ticket Monster will send you the real tickets and not the print-at-home variety. Support the blog and see the Yankees, it doesn’t get any better than that.

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Toronto Blue Jays 4/11/16

The New York Yankees have essentially had the last two days off and should be well rested with all hands on deck for this three game series with their division rivals, the Toronto Blue Jays. The Yankees were rained out on Sunday night before a scheduled off day and travel day on Monday giving New York their ace in the opener on extra rest. Today Masahiro Tanaka takes the mound on six days rest to face off with the Blue Jays starter Aaron Sanchez.

Tanaka heads into his second start of the season after his start Sunday night was rained out in Detroit. Tanaka last pitched on Opening Day where he threw just 87 pitches in 5.2 innings before leaving the game and complaining of fatigue late in the outing. Was this due to the Yankees coddling Tanaka and handling him with pampered hands or is it simply due to the cold weather and the early season schedule? We find out more tonight in Toronto because I personally don’t have any of those answers unfortunately.

Sanchez faced off with the Tampa Bay Rays in his first start of the season and it was a successful one which saw him strike out a career-high in the outing. Sanchez struck out eight Rays batters with his curveball and sinker combo and looks to keep that going tonight in Toronto against the New York Yankees.

The game will be played at 7:07 pm ET inside the Rogers Centre and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV. Go Yankees!

Recap: Yankees 4, Blue Jays 3

Carlos Beltran hit a go-ahead three-run shot in the eighth and the Yankees stole one from the Blue Jays, 4-3, on Friday night at Rogers Centre.

Belting off the Bench: A pinch-hitting Beltran clubbed arguably the Yankees' biggest home run of the year on a fastball from Aaron Sanchez, a 97 mph heater the youngster left over the plate. Sanchez had been ahead in the count 1-2 prior to the game-changing blast, but poorly located his next offering as Beltran took advantage.

The Nerves are Rampant: Seemingly continuing his unimpressive week, Andrew Miller again had trouble finishing the ninth. The Yankees' closer allowed two runners to reach scoring position with just one out, barely escaping disaster after lengthy strikeouts of Ben Revere and Troy Tulowitzki.

More Than Acceptable: His seven innings of three-run ball might not have been masterful, but nonetheless, Ivan Nova kept the Yankees in Friday's contest. The emerging right-hander surrendered all three of the Blue Jays' runs in a rough bottom of the third, but rebounded from there for his fourth win in five starts.

Get Outta Here!: To say David Price silenced the Yankees' bats for the first 7 1/3 innings Friday would be an understatement. But following eighth-inning singles by Mark Teixeira and Brian McCann as well as a run-scoring ground-rule double by Chase Headley, the Jays' ace was forced to exit with men on second and third, a mini-victory for New York which ultimately cost Price the W.

Going, Going, aaaand Caught: Facing Dellin Betances with two out and the bases empty in the eighth, Justin Smoak excited the home crowd with a deep drive to center -- and for a moment, it really did seem like the ball would clear the fence. Fortunetaly for the Yankees, though, it instead fizzled out on the warning track -- preserving the visitors' lead and Betances' scoreless innings streak.

Next Up: The Yankees and Blue Jays play again Saturday at 1:07 p.m. ET, a matchup you can see live on YES and MLB Network. Masahiro Tanaka (8-5, 3.79 ERA) will get the ball for the Yanks versus Toronto's Marco Estrada (10-6, 3.21 ERA), the same head-to-head which was showcased last Sunday.
