Quick Hit: A-Rod Hosting/Producing His Own Show

Alex Rodriguez has begun a tour since retiring from the New York Yankees and it has been aptly named “I’m not that bad after all.” In all seriousness there is no tour, but that doesn’t mean that the former Yankees third baseman has not made it a point to repair his image with the media and the sport of Major League Baseball since retiring. Alex has covered the sport for both Fox Sports and for ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball in recent years and with his latest endeavor he will host and produce an ESPN mini-series called “Pivot.”

Pivot will feature one-on-one interviews with current and former big-name athletes each episode and the interviews will be conducted in “an environment relevant to each athlete’s personal story” per an ESPN news release. This will be a four-part series. The interviewees and the schedule for the shows release have not been announced at the time of this writing.

The concept sounds interesting enough and, truth be told, since it has Alex Rodriguez I will watch it regardless. Stay tuned.

Quick Hit: Facebook Friday Games in MLB

You know how ESPN has their Monday, Wednesday and Sunday night baseball programs every week and you know how that prompted MLB Network to have their showcases on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoon? Well Facebook wants to get involved with that so every Friday, starting yesterday, Facebook will live stream one nationally televised game. How freaking awesome is this? Especially for those fans who have moved, displaced or uprooted from where their home team plays their home games 82 times a season.

This week Facebook live streamed the game between the Colorado Rockies and the Cincinnati Reds and will showcase the next 19 Fridays until the end of the season. Twitter also has a feed of a game weekly, which started April 7, that will move to every Tuesday from its former slot on Friday. Competition and all.

The game and the sport as we know it is evolving and I personally think we all have Rob Manfred to thank for that. This stuff just never happened under Bud Selig and probably never would have to be honest.

This is so awesome and I just had to share this morning. Enjoy and I guess my return to Facebook, which I have been off of for over a year now, is probably imminent. Dammit. Welcome back, begrudgingly. 

Game Preview: New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox 7/17

The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox will continue and finish off their three game weekend set in the Bronx tonight on national television and in prime time. Tonight the pitching matchup will match the stage it is set on as the Yankees send Masahiro Tanaka to the mound for the first time since the All-Star break while the Red Sox counter with an old and familiar foe for New York in David Price.


Tanaka has a strong first half overall but the righty looked human the closer the team got to the All-Star break. Speaking of human that's exactly what Tanaka has been against the Red Sox in his eight career starts against them which is obvious when looking at his 4-2 career record and 4.79 ERA with 37 K's in 47 innings.


Price was not as consistent in this year's first half as he has been in his career and that is something he will look to turn around tonight. Last time Price saw the Bronx specifically the Red Sox left gave up six runs on seven hits in just 4.2 innings in a loss.


The game will be played at 8:15 pm ET inside Yankee Stadium and can be seen as a part of ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball program. The Yankees ace against the Red Sox ace, all we need is both teams in contention and this would feel like old times. Well if Manny Ramirez was still roided up, if Derek Jeter wasn't a married and former Yankees captain and the annoying John Kruk and Curt Schilling were still in the booth anyway. Either way, Go Yankees!

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Detroit Tigers 4/10

For the first time this season, at least for me, we will be entertained with the New York Yankees on Sunday Night Baseball presented by ESPN. Out the door are Curt Schilling and John Kruk and in their place are former Yankees and Reds third baseman Aaron Boone and Jessica Mendoza. As you know I didn't watch MLB's Opening Night because I was watching the Walking Dead finale, pee-pee pants city yet?, so tonight is my first Sunday experience with the duo. In the matchup the Yankees will send their ace Masahiro Tanaka to the mound on normal rest to make his second start of the season while the Tigers counter with Justin Verlander.

Tanaka threw just 87 pitches in his first start of the season as he began the trend of Yankees pitchers going five innings plus or less (which CC Sabathia broke yesterday afternoon) in their starts this season. Tanaka went 5.2 innings on Opening Day against the Houston Astros allowing just two runs on four hits including that moon shot that Carlos Correa hit and complained of fatigue towards the end of the start. Was it the cold or was it the way New York handled and coddled him in spring training? Or is it something else entirely? We'll start to get that answer tonight in Detroit. 

Verlander made a great start in his first start of the season taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning against the powerful Miami Marlins. Verlander ended up giving up three hits in his final five batters of the contest including a two-run home run to Giancarlo Stanton but the start was still a successful one for Verlander. Justin Verlander hasn't beaten the Yankees since 2012 and hopefully that streak is still a thing after tonight's contest.

The game will be played at 8:35 pm ET inside Comerica Park and can be seen locally and nationally on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball program. I'll watch this over Fear The Walking Dead anytime so hopefully the team makes it worth it. Go Yankees!

Weekend Finale Open Thread

Monday's suck but I think I may despise Sunday night's more and more these days. First and foremost I am dreading the Monday morning which keeps me from wanting to do ANYTHING on Sunday night and secondly the Yankees game is usually long over by now. I miss the Sunday Night ESPN games and broadcasts for whatever reason. The Yankees were very successful in them, it was fun to bash John Kruk and Curt Schilling on Twitter, the banter and mentions on our Twitter (@GreedyStripes) went crazy and it was just fun. Oh well, it's just as fun winning on a Sunday afternoon I guess. Anyway this is it for the night, an open thread for you guys.

Game Thread: Boston Red Sox @ New York Yankees 4/12

Get your popcorn, get your sodas, get your ear plugs and grab your Twitter app having phone because it is ESPN Sunday Night Baseball and it's the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. Popcorn is great and Coke is better but the ear plugs are for John Kruk and the ESPN crew because you should expect a ton of injury talk about the Yankees starter tonight, Masahiro Tanaka. Tanaka will be on the mound after a less than stellar Opening Day start against the Toronto Blue Jays that did nothing to quell the doubters on his elbow's health. Opposing Tanaka tonight will be Clay Buchholz for the Red Sox so hide your laptops everyone. The game will be played at 8:05 pm ET and can be seen on ESPN as a part of ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball.

Game Preview: Boston Red Sox @ New York Yankees 4/12

Done are the 19 inning affairs from Friday night and no longer is Alex Rodriguez playing first base and cleaning up for the Yankees. It's a new day and it's a night game tonight at the Bronx that showcases the New York Yankees playing host to the Boston Red Sox on ESPN's first Sunday Night Baseball game of the season. Tonight we are in for a treat, as long as you watch the game on mute, as Masahiro Tanaka takes the mound for his second start of the season as he faces off against Clay Buchholz for the Boston Red Sox. The game will be played at 8:05 pm ET and can be seen on ESPN.

• Tanaka lasted just 82 pitches and four innings on Opening Day against the Toronto Blue Jays in a start that did not go as planned. Tanaka threw just 27 fastballs in the contest and saw his velocity dip as expected since he relied heavily on his offspeed pitches. Tanaka faces off with a Boston Red Sox team that hit him well in 2014 as Tanaka went 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA last season. 

• Buchholz had a great start on Opening Day that was aided by a Hanley Ramirez grand slam in a victory for Boston. Buchholz recorded nine strikeouts and allowed just three hits in seven innings against the Philadelphia Phillies. In seven career starts at Yankee Stadium Buchholz has a 4-3 record in his career with a 4.05 ERA so let's hope her gives up at least that in this game tonight. 

It looks like it's going to be another late night for us Yankees family so you may want to get that coffee or that Monster energy drink ready for the grind that is Monday morning. The Yankees head to Baltimore after this series so a win would be great, let's take care of that on national TV. Go Yankees!!!

8/3 Yankees Game Preview vs. Boston Red Sox

The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox tonight will play in the finale of their three game set this weekend at Fenway Park with the Bronx Bombers desperately needing a victory. The Yankees will send David Phelps to the mound looking for that victory and will face off with Clay Buchholz of the Red Sox. The game will be played at 8:05 pm ET and can be seen on ESPN and can be heard on the radio with John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman on WFAN. I'm not sure if the game will be available on MLB TV since it's nationally televised but I doubt it will be available.

Phelps is coming off a strong July in which he put up a 2-1 record with a 2.97 ERA in five starts for the Yankees. Phelps has not seen the Red Sox this season as a starting pitcher but did come out of the bullpen three times in April including notching his first career save on April 10. Phelps is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in 10 career games against Boston, three of them being starts.

Buchholz has been roughed up in his last three starts since the All Star Break, a trend that the Yankees hope to continue tonight. Buchholz has allowed at least four runs in each of the three starts and has allowed eight walks as well.

Yankees Game Preview vs. Baltimore Orioles 7/13

The New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles will play in the final game before the All Star Break tonight and all I have to say is thank goodness for that, damn I need a break. The Yankees will send Chase Whitley to the mound in the mid-season finale to face off with the Orioles Kevin Gausman. The game will be played at 8:05 pm ET and can be seen on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball and can be heard on the radio with John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman on WFAN.

Whitley is making his first start in a few weeks after seemingly hitting a wall with his innings. Whitley is making his first start to replace Masahiro Tanaka in the Yankees rotation and they are big shoes to fill.

Gausman has had an up and down season and hopefully it goes back down in the last start before the All Star Break. Gausman is fresh back from the minor leagues to make this start for the Yankees in Camden Yards.

Whitley lost his first game of his career last time out against the Toronto Blue Jays while struggling with command all night long. Whitley went 3/1 innings and allowed 11 hits and eight earned runs. Get 'em next time kid, tonight.

Lackey is also coming off a struggle of a start where he allowed seven hits and seven runs in 3.2 innings against the Seattle Mariners. In four career starts at Yankee Stadium Lackey owns a 1-2 record with an 8.10 ERA.

Quick Hit: Getting Back On Track

I want to start this day off by sincerely apologizing to our readers and our friends, work has been killing me this week and taking up much of the time I have allotted for this blog. We have been doing inventory at work which means all hands are on deck, whether you work the production lines, work in the office like myself, or clean the toilets, you're doing inventory and helping reconcile the inventory. Anyway after a few consecutive 11+ hour days and the rest of my day spent sleeping and spending time with my babies I have neglected you guys, and I apologize.

Inventory is done, I am as well rested as a guy can be with two kids (one of them being a seven month old),p and I am ready to get caught up and get back on track. Be sure to check in for tonight's ESPN Sunday Night Baseball game against the Boston Red Sox, I plan on live tweeting the game.

Preview: New York Yankees vs. Los Angeles Angels 4/27

The New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will finish their three game set tonight at Yankee Stadium as a part of ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball. With the off day for the Yankees tomorrow I expect all hands on deck tonight, especially in the bullpen. Hopefully the Yankees will not need the bullpen much as Masahiro Tanaka will be on the mound facing off with Garrett Richards for the Angels. The game will be played at 8:10 pm ET and can be seen on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball. It can also be seen on your computer with MLB TV or heard on the radio with WFAN.

Tanaka has been worth every penny thus far in 2014 and has lived up to the hype and more. Tanaka held the Red Sox to just two runs last time out in 7.1 IP and got his third victory of the season. Tanaka took Fenway and a repeat of the 24-0 season is still alive.

Richards has surprisingly been the best Angels pitcher this season, which is saying something in a rotation with Jered Weaver and CJ Wilson, and is one of the more exciting pitchers in all of baseball that you may not have heard of. Richards has only allowed seven runs in 25 innings pitched this season while striking out 24 batters and only walking 14.

Quick Hit: First ESPN Sunday Night Game Of Year

I just wanted to take the time to remind everyone in case they missed it that tonight will be the first Yankees game on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball. Everyone should be warned and know ahead of time where the mute button is on their respected televisions and remotes before game time. If you do choose to actually listen to the game please be willing to leave all logic at the door. It's ESPN, it's the Red Sox, and it's a nationally televised game so lot's of beard jerking should go on tonight, can't wait.

ESPN Releases Sunday Night Baseball Schedule

ESPN has released their annual schedule for Sunday Night Baseball's first half of the season and it is definitely Yankees heavy, especially at the beginning of the season. The complete list can be seen HERE via Hardball Talk, thanks go out to them.

In case you were wondering the Yankees play the Tampa Bay Rays on May 4, the TBD game on the schedule, but it is now officially a 1:05 pm ET game so we won't be there. Check back closer to the All Star game for the second half schedule. 

Game Thread: Yankees @ Red Sox 9/15

The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox will play their final game at Fenway Park this season head to head tonight on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball. The pitching match up will be Ivan Nova for the Yankees and Clay Buchholz for the Red Sox and the game can be seen at 8:05 pm ET. Ivan Nova is coming off of only a 79 pitch start and complaining of triceps stiffness for the second time this season. Buchholz has not made a start since June 8th and is coming off the DL to make his first start against the Yankees.
